A few weeks back I was fortunate to be invited to this interesting seminar by Intel. This stimulating talk on how to be a visibly smart mum in this day + age is actually fun and educational at the same time.

Techie Mummy Jaye Bautista, who also happens to be a blogger, talks about the advantages of being a tech-savvy mum + how modern technologies help to get our jobs done.  Gadgets + gizmo allow mums to multi-task, either by doing several work at the same time with the aid of your reliable PC or laptop (think updating your blog whilst checking your mails or updating your social networking sites) or entertaining + educating your toddler with the aid of videos + movies in your computer (which I am such a big fan of :))

Ciey Luy, the First Academy of Computer Arts Administrator, had an interesting presentation about animation + how it can be a fun option for kids or kids-at-heart as a summer activity. Animation, nowadays, has also evolved from just being a mere hobby into a very lucrative job, with companies requiring animators and 3D designers in their ranks, + it will be a wise decision to expose kids into it earlier on.

Randy Kanapi, Marketing Manager of Intel Philippines, talked about the basics in computer (reminiscent of Comp 101 back when I was a College Freshman ;)) + about Intel’s latest offering, the 2nd generation Intel Core Processor family: Intel Core i3, i5 + i7, which is the first visibly smart micro architecture to combine visual + 3D graphic technology with performance-leading microprocessors in a single chip. In layman’s term: it has a better power management, greater efficiency + increased battery life. Believe it or not, I am still running on Pentium 4 +  I can really use that kind of power in my PC!

Here are some staggering facts I got from Randy’s presentation:

  • 1 Million PC’s are shipped everyday
  • There are 2 Billion worldwide internet users (that many, right? :))
  • 247,000,000,000 (yes one too many Zeros!) e-mails are sent each day + 8 out 10 of these are spam (that probably explains the bulk of spam this site is getting everyday, really crazy)!
  • 2.5 Billion images are uploaded to Facebook per month!
  • 12.2 Billion videos are viewed each month
  • 90% of all IP traffic will be video by the year 2013

All in all, it was an afternoon of interesting conversations, good food + good company + I even get to meet quite a number of PMC mums there too, including Mummy Cherry + her charming daughter, MG, + sis Trish + Leira whom I both met for the very first time that day!

mum musings

music monday: unpretty by tlc

I was able to catch a rerun of the final episode of the recently concluded American Idol + one of my favorite group from the 90’s performed + it sparked the inspiration for today’s post, not to mention it brought me back to my younger + carefree days! 😉

This is one of my all-time favorite songs + it tackles girls + women’s struggle over self-image. During those days I think a lot of girls my age can totally relate to it + made this song a battle hymn towards their self-empowerment. I love the melody, but more importantly, I love the lyrics + the message that this song imparts. To the 19-year old me, it was my perfect song!

 

I used to really love these girl group, + Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes (may she rest in peace) is my favorite TLC. I remember avidly waiting for their videos to be shown on MTV and read articles about them featured on song magazines that I used to buy in College. I particularly loved their album, FanMail, along with a hosts of amazing singles this album spawned, which include this one, I Miss You So Much, Dear Lie + No Scrubs. Although I was not able to purchase a copy of this album I got to listen to these songs over again, much thanks to the radio stations + MTV! Which reminds me, I will check out where I can download a copy of this online later one 😉

TLC is comprised of T-boz, Left-Eye + Chilli and is considered one of the most influential artist of their time. The single Unpretty was released in August 1999 + went on to become number one at the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

needing a bigger space for my little man

I can’t believe that my little man will be turning 21 months in four days!

Time sure flies + I hardly had time to notice it! My once-little-baby is growing a little bit bigger everyday.  I bet he’s put on a few more pounds since the last time he tipped the scale at his pedia’s office at 15 kilograms +  I am also sure he’s grown a few inches taller since then (I was actually having trouble checking, since he won’t just stand still whilst I struggle to get his height measurement correctly, courtesy of this 7-foot Mickey Mouse marquee by our bedroom door :))

I bet in a few more days my son + I will have trouble trying to fit ourselves in our single bed where we sleep and hang around most of the time, yes, did I fail to mention that we co-sleep? As early as now, I’d like to check out shops and furniture stores, in search for a bigger bed or maybe I can try this warehouse of mattresses nearby. Perhaps they will have something that would fit both myself + my growing little boy at a much cheaper price!

If I’d have my way I’ll probably be moving in a much bigger space very soon, too, just so my son can have plenty of safe and clean space to play and move around. A house with a bigger room for me + my son + an extra room, which I’d convert into a playroom, where I’d place all of my son’s toys + things. We are really having quite a hard time trying to fit all of our stuffs in our bedroom, see. I’d probably have to look for a shelf or a custom-built closet, where I can keep all our other belongings, including Jared’s floaters, which are now either stashed underneath the bed or above the closet gathering dust! Moving into place of our own, will probably solve all my woes, but, alas, my purse + my paypal account can’t simply accommodate that at the moment.

Anyway, enough of my rants, I am simply stoked now that my little man is turning another month older. He will be turning 2 years old in 3 months time + he’d be needing a bigger space to thrive in too + we’ll just probably improvise for the time being.  But, if I can be afforded a simple request, I’d really wish he won’t grow up way too fast! 😉
