needing a bigger sleeping space

Jared's nook, home, motherhood, beds, tips + tricks

My little man is turning 3 in about 6 weeks time + needless to say, he is really getting bigger each day! Proof is that he can easily occupy the entire bed when he tries + he can actually throw me out of it, too! I hardly have enough space to sleep on + we might be needing a bigger bed real soon as I planned for us to co-sleep for as long as we can! 😉

I think I might have to go for one of those family-sized or queen-sized mattresses this time around. There is simply not much space to move around if we ever pick another single or twin-size. + since Jared can easily navigate an actual bed {compared to the mattress-lying-on-the-floor-to-prevent-falls set-up that we have right now}, I guess I might have to look around for bed frames, as well! I will also have to look for a safety bed rail  {much like the one in the photo} + maybe I should check out stores like ParentGiving.com, that offers a wide variety of these sort of products. They have the best bed rails from top brands for seniors, as well as for children, too. Oh, + of course, I won’t forget to get a bed protector, while I am at it! Things can get messy, especially when the little man is sick, + I would love to guard my new bed from nasty throw ups!

Oh well, getting all these stuffs for our bedroom won’t come cheap, hopefully I can save up real soon for it + find a store that carries these items locally that also fits my budget!

By the way, here are a few tips I can think of when buying beds or mattress:

  • Always check for product warranty ~ if it was a good product, a mattress or a bed normally comes with a minimum 10-year product warranty
  • Find a size which you can use for longer periods of time ~ especially when buying beds + mattresses for children. It would be quite impractical to buy him one for each stage of his life + just imagine the amount of money you can save once you decide to buy one he can use for the next 10 to 15 years?
  • Buy in an actual mattress or bed shop ~ as they have a wide array of products to choose from compared to those furniture shops in department stores, they have the most competent sales staff who are highly-knowledgeable on bed matters. Plus, if you get lucky, you might event stumble upon a sale or a big discount! 😉
  • Guard your new investment ~ you will be spending a considerable amount of money on beds + mattress, so you might as well protect your investment + check out bed protectors, too!

Do you have any other tips on bed-shopping? I’d love to hear it, do share it in a comment below, right? Thanks! 😉

jared’s july haircut

jared's nook, Jared, parenting 101, services for childrenThe little man’s mane has grown considerably long the past 3 months that we’ve never been to the salon, truth is it now falls past his eyes that he’d usually get annoyed by it. That is why we where at the mall first Sunday of the month for a much-needed hair cut. His hair grows way too fast he needs to have it trimmed every few months.

All of the other hair cut episodes are usually highlighted with tears, fit + tantrum, not to mention dodging the barber here + there. I was actually expecting this particular one to be no different. In fact I was bracing myself for another shower of cut hair just like the last time when Jared refused to sit on the car barber chair + settled for mum’s arms instead while having his hair done!

So just imagine my surprise, not to mention my delight, when he peacefully let the barber do his job, save for some occasional dodging here + there, perhaps! He was glued on the telly, which is currently showing his all-time fave movie, Cars! As kuya busied himself trimming the little man’s hair, Jared was intent on watching Lightning McQueen’s progress at the Piston Cup race.

The session was soon over sans the drama + the hoopla + I can never be a prouder mum!

The trick:

For a less stressful hair cut session, I advise you to bring your little one when they’re a bit sleepy + tired that they won’t have much energy to fight + fuss. It works wonders for me! 😉

Also, consider bringing them to Cuts 4 Tots {https://www.facebook.com/cuts4tots.hairsalon}. I highly recommend this salon for kiddos. We’ve been there on several occasions, + tantrums or not, they always get the job done! Not to mention, they also have a bulk of toys, + a telly with your kiddo’s favorite cartoon on while the haircut progresses, to keep the little ones occupied.  I do not know how their haircutters manage to trim children’s manes inspite of the endless fidgeting + constant squirm, + without cutting an ear or two! 🙂

For more stories on my little man, you can check out Jared’s Little Corner! 😉

Thought I’d share this with:

Disclaimer: No, I was not paid for this post. I am merely sharing a kid-friendly service that might be able to help mums out there, who, like me, aspire to give the best to their little ones 🙂

so many things to write, too little time

I have that phrase running constantly in my head for months now + I’ve got a notebook full of notes + would-be future posts as proof!

Oh well, I guess, again, it comes with the mummy territory. While you prioritize your children + your other home-making tasks, everything else takes the sideline. Yes, including things that you really loved doing. + while you manage to bathe, feed, + take care of the little ones, you just wished you have more time left to do those things, too, like, for myself, cuddle with my favorite paperbacks more or update my blogs regularly.  Since these are the activities that I’d neglect at a drop of a hat, I just wish I will get the chance to get back to them real soon, or whenever the itch arises. But, unfortunately, when I do manage to find the time to finally tinker on my blog, I just do not have the muse or the mood to write. The irony of it all!

Although I have always loved writing {mostly mediocre romance novels + poems in high school, + many a number of paper works in College + while others dread those reaction papers, Essay assignments + formal themes, I would always look forward to those writing homework in English + Theology in class.  + would even volunteer to do my friends’ homework  for them! Yeah, I am weird like that! }, I have always been a moody writer, too. I guess the urge to write comes when I am relaxed + inspired, pressures + deadlines are hardly my motivation, so I did not think I’d make a living out of it! That only changed when I discovered blogging + found ways to earn money from writing through my blogs. I am also a nocturnal writer, so I normally got my creative juices flowing in the wee hours of the night. I also couldn’t count up all the poems I have written while daydreaming at night or while I had those numerous spells of insomnia when I was younger. I have notebooks upon notebooks of unpublished works which I hope I’d get to polish + publish one day, one of my ultimate aspirations in life!

So how do I beat the dry spells? By keeping a notebook handy + pouring my heart out onto it whenever the writing mood arises. It was also a perfect time-saver, as it allows me to work on more posts at a time, when all I have to do is copy from what I’ve previously written.

For me, blogging is much like school all over again + I am loving every bit of it! I also treat each post as a homework or an essay writing examination, which I really need to pass. Hopefully I get to pass each of them + I do hope, too, that I get to write most of what’s in my notebook onto these pages real soon!
