Our Simple Mother’s Day Celebration

Mother’s Day morning

It was a fine day, Mother’s Day. I had no special presents or fancy dinner, just a couple of greetings from friends and family. I had a very simple yet special celebration with my son. I devoted the day entirely to his needs and wants. And come to think of it, Jared is the reason why I am celebrating this day of mums and it is only fitting that I did it spending my time with and for him. Just the way I like it!

My first gift of the day came in forms of wet kisses when the little man woke up. I was teaching him how to say “Mummy, Happy Mother’s Day!” but he has his own version. Instead of what I taught he will always tell me, “Mummy, Happy Mummy’s Day!” I thought that was rather sweet!  Heart

Initially we planned to spend the day out by visiting my parents at the memorial and going to the mall to dine out, but the little man had other plans in mind. He said he wanted to watch cartoons on the telly and I agreed. By the time I was ready to go, he said he’d like to see Toy Story again and reasoned that it is still hot outside for us to go out. I have discovered not too long ago that you cannot win any argument with a toddler, so after giving quite a good fight, I finally gave in. Besides, it was really quite hot outside and we are both having a bit of cough and colds. Put Toy Story on and prepared some afternoon snacks for me and the little man. He was content with the rice crackers and pineapple juice I gave him and did not even give the carrot sticks with butter cookie a second look!

goofing around while watching TV

By 6pm, we found this cute film showing in one of the local channels and decided to watch it. I had no idea Chicken Run is a clay animation thing, nevertheless, we liked it, at least the part that we were able to catch. By this time, too, the little man requested dinner and asked for his current favorite ~ corned beef. I was not planning to cook dinner anymore since he’s not normally up to the task and would rather have his bottle, but since the little man requested for it, I quickly prepared the ingredients and sauteed one can of corned beef from our stash. We had a lovely simple dinner and I was delighted the little man ate a lot!

By bedtime, even without his afternoon nap, Jared still had enough energy in him to ask me to write the alphabet on his Iron Man 3 notebook. I told him we’d do this in the bedroom. After a couple of letters, I told him it was time for us to sleep and that we’d continue with our alphabet the next day. Tired and sleepy, he readily agreed and its light out!

How was your Mother’s Day Celebration?

How To Look Fabulous in Whatever Body Shape You’re In

Ever since my body shape drastically changed after giving birth, I really had a hard time finding the clothes that fit perfectly. Nothing from my old wardrobe seem to fit and those that actually do are never the same size I used to wear! I have to admit, I have grown bigger the last four years after giving birth to my little man. I have trouble coping with the weight gain most of the time and other times I am in denial, struggling to make some of my old clothes fit, but in vain. That is why I had this nagging feeling that I do not look as good as I used to. There are bulges and unsightly lumps everywhere and I am feeling more uncomfortable each day.

Now that I have been living with the saddlebags for a while, since I have not been successful in getting rid of them as much as I want to, I think I have also grown to accept that I have considerable grown in the last 4 years and I am starting to feel comfortable in my own skin again. Am trying to live and deal with the extra weight and all its physical manifestations, as well as trying to accept that I may never look and weigh the same way. The best thing I’ve ever done so far to ease the discomfort is to wear appropriately-sized underthings and I tell you they make a world of difference.

Here’s a fabulous infographic I recently came across that will guide you in choosing the right underwear to flatter whatever body shape you have and trust me, be wise enough to heed these nifty tips as they can really work magic in making you look and feel great. Of course, we can think about the work out and diet, afterwards!  Laugh

best things to do this summer, summer activities for children, weekend, Where-to-Weekend, SM Malls, SM Fairview

SM has just officially started the summer season with a big bang through their SM Cartoon Fest at SM Fairview on 12 April, 2013! It was our first time to visit this branch and I am excited as well! To add in more fun and color to the frenzy they invited a bunch of our well-loved cartoon characters to join the party! Imagine Spongebob, the Justice League superheroes led by my personal favorite Batman, the Angry Birds, Barbie, Garfield, the Sesame Street gang led by Elmo, Cookie Monster and best friends Ernie and Bert, Hello Kitty, Dora the Explorer, The Lorax, Robby Rabbit, the adorable Minions from Despicable Me, Tweety Bird and Bugs Bunny, the rambunctious duo of Tom and Jerry, the lovely ladies from Monster High, and EB from the film Hop. I know! It feels like Christmas came eight months earlier! Even my little man had the time of his life waiting for his favorites to come up the stage and enjoyed marveling at those characters he was actually seeing for the first time. Even mums thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

After the short program, children are given the chance to meet and greet with each of their favorite cartoon characters and have their photos taken, too. For a minimum purchase of P300 worth of related products, which are on exhibit and are on sale at the time {you can choose from a multitude of products ~ from toys, to children’s clothes to lovely collectible items, to school supplies}, mall patrons and their children are given free entrance to the event and enjoy the afternoon with the adorable mascots! Jared had fun hopping from one booth to another having his photos taken with the cartoon characters! I cannot help myself, in fact, I had to pose with him when it is time to have his picture taken with Batman and his gang of super heroes!  Razz It was a good thing that a good friend of mine, Rence, volunteered to be our photographer of the day when our camera went dead. You can check out more of those photos on Jared’s blog.

I know the P is for Princess DVD looks amiss, but Jared enjoyed it nevertheless, since there is an episode where his favorite Elmo made an appearance! Smile

Our Saturday afternoon was well-spent and the travel all the way to SM Fairview is very worthwhile. Jared even had these lovely Garfield and Sesame Street stuff as giveaway! Special shout outs to Mykel and Jesse of SM for inviting and accommodating me and the little man.  Big Smile

The SM Cartoon Fest is something both the kids and the kids-at-heart will enjoy and it sure is one perfect way to have a very memorable summer. Do check out when they will hit the SM branch nearest to you by visiting and following the SM Supermalls Fan Page on Facebook.

The Little Man’s First Visit To The Dentist

I thought it was the best time for the little man’s first dental visit this year so I checked online for potential dentists to try. I was actually advised by my pedia to check out pediatric dentists in Manila instead of trying out regular dentists locally, as pediatric dentists know perfectly how to examine and treat the little one’s chompers. After a few online search, I have found exactly the pediatric dentist my pedia was talking about. But it was a good thing I came across a mummy friend, Gene, who went there earlier this year with her 4-year old toddler and recommended that I check out this other dentist, instead.  Which I did. I went to check for the dentist’s contact details online and contacted him the next day.

Dr. Edwin G. Vismanos of the Happy Child Dental Clinic responded to my inquiry, and was kind enough to give me instructions on how to go to their clinic, too. We scheduled Jared’s very first dental appointment on the 2nd of April.

The Very First Dental Appointment

The place was easy enough to find. The most distinguished landmark is the Sto. Domingo Church and you just have to take the footbridge in front of it to get across.  Besides, we took a cab to go there so that Jared won’t have to endure the heat while riding a public transportation. That way, even when we had quite a long journey {we are coming from Bulacan, remember?}, the little man still looks fresh when we arrived to the place.

The little man actually thought we are going to ActiveFun and good thing there was actually a makeshift play area in the clinic, complete with a little slide and loads of toys for Jared to enjoy and pass the time while we wait for our turn. The dentist was currently attending to two little patients when we arrived and the little man thoroughly enjoyed the slide and the toys by the time it was his turn to be checked. Meanwhile, I busied myself filling-up forms while waiting.

Before we took to the dentist chair, the dentist explained the full procedure to me, complete with photos and illustrations so that I can fully understand and grasp how the process will go about. Jared’s examination probably took only about 5 minutes. Of course, he was putting up a fight and I had to carry him on the dentist chair just so the dentist can peek right through his mouth. The little man was crying and making a fuss, which is just what I expected. Dr. Vismanos quickly perused his teeth and counted them, too. After the examination, the little man was made to pick for a toy reward and as expected, he went for the little blue toy car!
