How to Give a Unique Gift at a Baby Shower

Traditionally, when a friend gave birth, you would buy a card and a little gift for the new baby after he or she had arrived. One of the latest trends though(which we can thank our neighbors across the pond for is for the friends of the mum-to-be to throw a baby shower. Baby showers are great fun; they’re a way for everyone to celebrate the pregnancy, share parenting tips and hopefully enjoy some cake! A big part of the baby shower tradition, however, is giving gifts. This can be quite a high-pressure event – what if other people have spent more on their gifts? What if you give the same present as somebody else? What if you forget the gender of the baby and hand over an assortment of baby blue when everyone else gives pink?! A good suggestion to combat these potential social faux pas (apart from the last one, which you will just have to plough through with a smile and a return receipt) is to try to choose an unusual gift. Baby outfits, toys and nursery decorations are all undeniably useful, but the parents will probably receive more than enough of these. Selecting something a little bit different will make your gift stand out from the rest, and show the expectant mum how much thought you have put into it. It might even earn you an extra slice of cake!

A Family Tree

This is a brilliant gift idea if you’re a family member, or close enough to the family to know details of relative’s names and connections. Some companies allow you to make customized family tree posters online, or if you’re good with arts and crafts then you could always create your own tree to be displayed on the wall. Add in the names of the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and then leave a gap for the baby for the parents to fill in once they have decided on a name. This is a really unique way to celebrate the birth of the new arrival, and it will also be something that the child will treasure as they get older.

Yesterday I have shared a few gift ideas for men in time for Father’s Day + here are a few more items you might want to consider gifting the most important man in your life on his big day:

A new shaving kit can very well be one of the best gifts you might give Dad, as shaving is one of the things he does everyday + updating his shaving kit, + throwing in a bottle of a luxurious shaving oil can be a sure-fire way to jump start his day!
You can print personalized greeting cards + let the little ones scribble their sweet notes for Dad! For the babies who cannot doodle just yet, you can try stamping these cards with their hand or footprints, I bet dad will love this!
Let dad take a breather from the hard day’s work by chilling a few bottles of his favorite drinks in the ref + serving them to him when he’s home. You can also decorate these bottles with colorful Father’s Day printables to make them more appealing to the man of the house.
For your bookworm dad, a copy or two of his favorite paperbacks will be very much appreciated. Wrap them in colorful papers + attach your personalized note for a complete beautiful package.
Tickets to Sunday’s basketball or baseball game also sounds like a wonderful gift idea for Dad. I bet he will have a splendid time outdoors + witnessing his favorite team win the game!

Father’s Day is just around the corner + I bet most of you are racking up your brains on what to give the dearest men in your life on this special occasion. If my Papa where around, I’d probably bring him + Mama to see a movie or watch a concert or a show, or maybe we can try those buffet meals or go for an out-of-town trip to Tagaytay or maybe Subic. I really have quite a number of things in mind, if only we can get to celebrate the day with our Papa.

For those who are luckier here are a few things you might want to consider giving Dad on his day:

His favorite pen engraved with his name. I bet your dad will love this gift idea. Nothing beats a present with the receiver’s name engraved on it! 🙂
Personalized jewelry gifts. Not most men are fond of jewelry, but I am betting anyone who does will definitely adore you more for this wonderful gift. You can also have their names or a lovelly message engraved on these jewelry gifts.
Gym Membership. For your sports buff dad or husband, I bet he will really appreciate a Gift Certificate for gym membership, that way he can start to get serious with his gym routine + work on those muscles! 😉
A complete set of tools. For your personal handyman, nothing will delight him more that a box of shiny, new tools he can tinker with!
A trip to the spa. The hardworking men in our lives also deserve some pampering especially after working for long hours to provide for his family. A trip to the spa for a relaxing massage + an invigorating foot massage or a manicure {my Papa loves those} will surely be appreciated by Dad!

Whatever you decide to give Dad on his special day, just don’t forget to let him know how much he is appreciated + tell him how blessed you are to have him in your life. If my Papa were around, I will definitely do!
