I have featured my giveaway prize from Working Mama and Dezign With a Z in a previous post. I have also mentioned that Dezign with a Z was very generous to send me another item for review purposes. They gave me an option to choose another product from their wide array of wall stickers and I picked this lovely animal wall decal clock from their clock wall decals section. My little man loves animals and I bet he will delightfully welcome this new addition to our living room wall.  😀

my package from Dezign with a Z

I personally chose this design because I needed a new wall clock at home and choosing this cute and quirky clock wall decal helps me hit two birds with one stone ~ I will get the clock that I needed and add a touch of color and beautiful design to our otherwise all-blue wall. A win-win situation!

our brand spankin’ new clock wall decal!

When I got my wall sticker I wasted no time in putting it on my wall and surprisingly, I was able to set it up in a few minutes. I used this lovely little purple plastic square that comes with my package to help me flatten and straighten the clock wall decal on my wall. The only tricky part is how to put the clock mechanism that goes with it. Temporarily, I used a wide double-sided adhesive to glue the mechanism to the wall decal, but I have to find an electric drill so that I can permanently fix it onto my wall eventually. Nevertheless, I simply love how it now adds a touch of lovely design on our living room wall and also allows me to check on the time in a cinch every now and then.

Those Sofa Beds + The Proverbial Afternoon Naps

home furnishings, home, mum's thoughts

I do not know about you but I find myself rather sleepy than usual these days. Blame it on my uncharacteristically sour mood or the very hot humid weather, probably, but I just find myself dosing off as soon as 3pm starts, or as soon as my little man dosed off. I know that it was genetically ingrained that we fall asleep at 3pm, it is in our nature, but I have tried to skive off those naps all my life and I have actually been quite successful until lately. I guess I am just not getting enough amount of sleep at night that is why by the time half of the day is gone, my body is clamoring for rest and sleep. Or maybe it is just one of my body’s way of coping with these unbelievably hot summer days! The heat is almost making me numb that all I really wanted to do is relax and lie around all day long!

In fact, apart from the refrigerator and the electric fans {not to mention the telly!}, the sofa bed will have to be the most abused part of our home. Jared and I will spend most of our days and nights slouched in it. And sometimes, the little man would like it all to himself, especially when he is sleepy and watching his favorite cartoons. He was, after all, growing taller by the day and when he lie down and stretched his body on the couch, there is hardly enough vacant space for me to occupy!

If I can afford it, I would definitely get one from those elegant variety of sofa beds from Tesco. That one on the photo is just the most ideal for our little living room and it looks very much like the one we have now, except for the color and the material.  I can probably place it beside our old set so that the little man and I can have separate places to lounge about. I am not sure if I can convert our sofa bed the same as that on the second photo but I really think it is quite a fabulous idea. We can transform them when it gets dark and we can have a little slumber party in the living room. I bet the little man will enjoy it, especially if we will invite his favorite turtle night lamp and all his other toys to the party! 🙂

Children: Is Bunk Bed Suitable For My Kid?

Now that your home is completely renovated and all of the rooms are spacious and clean, it’s time to start thinking about the style for your children’s bedrooms. One of the possible options for the rooms is a bunk bed. Is this the bedding option for you and your family?

Multiple Children

Presumably, most bunk beds are going to be more expensive than a single bed as they are designed to sleep two people. If you have only one child, then half of this piece of furniture is going to go to waste. If you already have the children to fill a bunk bed then it would be an efficient way to utilise limited bedroom space to give them more room to play. The philosophy extends if you have three children, with triple bunk beds a popular option. This could also be a good purchase if you’ve got two kids but planning on having a third, this will let the older children adjust to the fact they’ll share the bedroom with another sibling soon.

The Children’s Age

Bunk beds are generally not appropriate for toddlers or even youngsters who are still in the early primary grades. The main concern is the height of the top of the bed. When children do not yet quite have enough control over themselves in their sleep, they could fall from the bed and be seriously injured. If you absolutely must have bunk beds for your children, then consider putting a rail on the top bunk bed so this issue is resolved.

The Height

As previously mentioned, the height of the top bunk is a major concern when you are selecting bunk beds for your children. When children have a fear of heights, a bunk bed is really not the best way to help them get over it. One suggestion is to put the frightened child on the bottom bunk, pending that the other child has no issue with heights. Another consideration is whether the child on the top bunk has sufficient climbing skills. It is usually a ladder that leads up to the top bunk; stairs are generally not part of such an arrangement.

The Cost

Another point that was briefly mentioned earlier involves the price of the bunk bed. In the majority of cases, they will be more expensive than a single bed; however, they could likely cost less than the price of two separate beds. Review the budget to figure out the type of bed that is most cost effective for you. Of course, it is so important to choose beds that are made out of high quality materials. You do not want the bed to have dangerous lead paint in it. Furthermore, the bed absolutely must be sturdy if your precious little ones are going to be climbing in and out of it.

No one answer exists as to whether or not a bunk bed is appropriate for your child or children. When space needs to be saved, yes, a bunk bed is a logical option. However, children also need to meet all of the other criteria to ensure that the bed is a safe and sound place for them to sleep.
