Cliche it may be, but there is indeed a woman behind the person we are today. And that is no less than her ~ our mother. We used to call her nanay, inay, ‘nay, mama, mummy, or simply mum. Needless to say, she deserves more than that given the pivotal role she fulfills in rearing us from childhood to adulthood and possibly for the rest of our lives.
There may be opposing beliefs whether that greater maternal instinct is biologically predetermined or socially imposed, but everyone would agree that a mother is hardwired to love and care about the whole family, especially the children, all the time. For better or worse, it’s always the welfare of everyone at home on top of her priority.
No wonder she’s an epitome of a doting human being that touches everybody’s life. So, it’s but right to honor and return all the favors she has done for us. And what a better way to do this than this Mother’s Day.
Still drooling over the ways on how to spend this time of the year again with her? Well, you may opt for the basics of gift-giving from simple trinkets to expensive items. But take note, your appreciation of her is not equated by the tag price of your present. It’s the thought that counts, as an adage says.
You may consider a set of hankies that will bring back the memory of her wiping out her tears of happiness upon knowing that she’s conceiving a li’l creature inside her womb. That’s you, of course. A loose yet comfy clothes shall make her remember that sort of a duster or preggy dress she wore in the laborious yet exciting “nine months” of gestation. [Read more…]
I am sure most mums will agree that we have never been more sleep-deprived until we became mums with little bosses demanding our attention and loving care 24 hours of the day. I remember all too clearly that I stayed awake for about 48 hours when I came home from the hospital with my little bundle of joy ~ a part of me was half-believing I brought home a child and it is mine while the other part was mentally ticking off items from my new and unfamiliar to-do list. It was ironic that I was losing precious sleeping time when I need to be in my optimal best in order to become the best mum for my son. A mum’s sleeping time is scarce, in fact, that it is of utmost importance that we make the most of what little time we have.
I was invited by Uratex Premium Mattress ~ The Sleep Specialist to their Mother’s Day Sparty held at the Ronac Lifestyle Center at Paseo De Magallanes in Makati City last week. Not only are we treated to a delightful spa treatment, we even got to learn about their awesome mattresses and pillow products during our mini-workshop. Aiming to raise awareness on how to achieve better sleep, we also had the chance to watch a short video by Dr. Keith Aguilera, ENT/Sleep Specialist from the Philippines Society Of Sleep Medicine during the event. He shared the following tips for a healthy sleep: [Read more…]
“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.” ~ Osho
A mother’s story is always inspiring and inspirational. We might have different journeys and adventures to take but there is one thing that connects us all together ~ our undying love for our children. And I appreciate my mother’s story now that I am a mum myself. It is wonderful that we have this one special day when we honor all the beautiful and wonderful mums in our lives, although I am sure we all have our little Mother’s Day celebration on a day-to-day basis. It isn’t a simple job after all and the least we can do is to celebrate how our mums made our lives a little better and easier daily.
Most mums might have a grander and more elaborate way of celebrating Mother’s Day but I thought there is no better way to celebrate it than by welcoming your newborn into the world. Here’s a touching and heart-warming video documenting women who became mums on Mother’s Day. I am sure their wonderful experience made the day even more special. Watching this brought me back to the day when I became a mum for the very first time. It was a surreal experience and being totally clueless made it more baffling. I remember vividly how I was half conscious struggling to fight off the general anesthesia and how I finally gave in to sleep after hearing the doctor declared “it’s a boy” and hear my little one’s soft cries. That day is, and always will be, one of the days I will cherish the most when I was able to give birth to my biggest blessing and when I realized how strong I could really be if I tried. I just wish I had videos and more photos documenting the special day that I can show the little man when he finally asked how babies were born.
Kudos to the people at Champion for championing mums over the years!
I, on the other hand, had a very simple yet special celebration on Mother’s Day. I brought the little man to one of his favorite fast foods as he is currently collecting their latest Happy Meal Toys. We’ve been on a fast food diet for 2 consecutive days so we can collect all 6 toys but I have no complaints because for the first time, McDonald’s featured books in their Happy Meal collection and this mum is all thumbs up! Additional thumbs up, too, for the free sundae cone for mums in celebration of Mother’s Day! We spent the rest of the day visiting my Mama and Papa at the memorial and going home to my parents house to spend time with my sisters and my niece and nephew. It was a simple day but I am more than happy to spend it with the most important people in my life! [Read more…]
