The Little One’s Second Quarter Grades Are In

That’s right! This mum can breathe freely again as the little man’s 2nd Quarter exam results just came in. I am glad that he did well in his exams and got good grades. I was just a bit wary that he was too fond of being ahead of the class to submit exams and exercise that he would sometimes get confused and end up writing wrong answers. I did talked to him about this and told him that the exams are not a race and that it is more important that he get every question right, instead of finishing ahead of his classmates. Hopefully, he’d remember this the next time he had an exercise or exam to finish in class.

Meanwhile, I am also relieved to see Jared’s report card and his 2nd Quarter grades. I am very happy to note that he did get very good marks! It is good to know that he is doing well in class and is learning in school, as what his teachers told me. More importantly, I am sure that the little one is enjoying his time in class, which in turn will make it much easier for him to learn about his lessons.

Looks like our reviewing did the trick, so did our daily habit of finishing his homework. For this next quarter, we shall be doing a lot more of reading at home, as well as practice writing worksheets. He’s  started reading 3-letter words and I cannot wait for him to harness this skill and start reading his books on his own! Writing is something he really struggles with, so we shall also be focusing on his writing skills.

How’s your little ones’ 2nd Quarter grades mums and what areas will you be working on this quarter? 🙂

Of Big Schools + Cost Of Living Spike

I cannot believe that a few months from now I will be having a formal preschooler and that there is no turning back. Nothing makes me face and address this reality better than visiting one of those local schools nearby to inquire about their school, their system and their prevailing rates. I cannot imagine that sending a 4-year old child to preschool will actually entail a 5-figure school tuition, not including uniforms and textbooks and the regular daily expenses that going to and from school would incur!

It is really easy to surmise that the cost of living in this day and age has gone haywire! I cannot help but look back when me and my siblings where all going to school at the same time. It was a good thing that we were all admitted to the local public elementary school as I do not see how my ordinary employee father and stay-at-home mother would’ve afforded to send us all to school. Back then, my private College school tuition is probably lower than what the private elementary school quoted when I asked how much will we have to prepare to have our son enrolled in their preschool class!

1st Day At The Little Man’s New Playschool

on our way to school…

January 13 was the little man’s first day in his new playschool so I made sure that we woke up and prepared early. I packed his measly school stuff {his Thor notebook and his Thomas the Train pencil case that has an assortment of pencils, colored pens and a sharpener} onto his bag and off we go.

Hi-Q Tutorial and Play Center

Our new playschool is about 15 minutes away from our place and since we were early that day, we still managed to have a morning walk to the main road where we road the jeepney to school. Hi-Q Tutorial and Play Center is located at the Feliza Jazz Building that also housed the local Philhealth office.

The little man was already familiar with his new teacher as we’ve already been there for his assessment the week before. I noticed that his teacher have a folder of activities for my son to do that day and they started out with coloring and tracing the first few letters of the alphabet. Jared was not too keen at first and wanted to explore a bit more of his new surroundings, but he was able to finish some of his tracing sheets and a number of coloring pages. After the exercises they also had storytelling time and learning about numbers.

Teaching little children can be very difficult that is why I admire pre-school teachers for their patience and perseverance. I also noticed how Teacher Cheenie would convince Jared to continue writing or learning even when he is already complaining to be tired. When his attention is wandering off somewhere else, the teacher would then shift to other activities to get his attention. The best thing that works for the little man so far are the mega blocs. He was so enamored by them that he looked forward to playing with them at the end of his class.

Compared to his former playschool, Hi-Q is focused on one-on-one style of learning, which I think is the most ideal for kids of Jared’s age. There were no other children around that day as I was told most of the kids as old as Jared would normally go to the center in the afternoon. I guess it works to my little one’s advantage as there would be less distraction to pique his interest.
