is your home ready for the rainy season?

home, tips + tricks

I have mentioned in one of my previous post some tips + tricks on how to make you + your family all geared up for the rainy months ahead. In the same manner, you have to get your homes ready for the storm + the typhoons, too, after all, it was our sole source of protection + refuge from the bad weather that it pays to have it checked out so you can have the necessary repairs done before the typhoons came barging in one after the other.

If you are aiming for a house remodel or a renovation, it is best to have this work done as early as possible, ideally during the long, dry summer months, along with other major works + repairs that you have in mind, which can either include any or all of the following:

  • roof renovations ~ roofs work the hardest during rainy season, so make sure you get all the leaks fixed in time. a new coat of paint to make your roof last longer is also advisable, as it not only makes your roof stronger, it also protects against rusting
  • painting jobs
  • fence fixing
Some minor repairs, like fixing the doors, or minor floor tiles maintenance or retouching old painting jobs indoors can be scheduled much later since they can still be done even during the stormy season, plus they are also easier + faster to finish. To faster accomplish these tasks, make sure to keep a detailed list of every single work, as well as a complete schedule of work that needs to be done. It wouldn’t hurt if you can employ the most reliable people to do the work for you, too! 😉  I just wish I had enough money to spare so I can have my parents’ house renovated soon…

beating the june jitters

parenting 101, motherhood, tips + tricks

Time flies too fast! Can you believe that we’re more than half-way through the month of June + shall be ushering the next month in more than a week’s time?

Oh well, June is actually one of my least favorite months + that is no thanks to the rain + storms + the perpetual inclement weather that we normally experience around this time. It means less chance to spend time outdoors + more time to mope inside the house as we wait for the typhoons to leave. It also means more chance for you + your children to get sick.

To beat the June jitters, you might want to make sure you have:

  • the medicine cabinet well-stocked since you never know when this might come handy. {I’ll be back with a post on what to put in your medicine box soon}
  • just scheduled you + your children’s flu shots! nothing beats being prepared to beat those sickness blues away, so book that appointment with your doctor as soon as you can
  • stocked up on bug repellents, as mosquitoes + other insects tend to thrive in a moist environment. Protect your little ones from insect bites by having your all-natural bug sprays ready. I will share Human Heart Nature’s Bug Shield in one of my future posts.
I am sure that others will beg to disagree with me, about June being my favorite month, that is, June is also well known to be the wedding month, after all, + while I write this am sure a lot of couples are having arrangements with MS party planner + the likes, + are busy organizing their dream weddings. Go ahead + do not let me dampen your spirits one bit. Just don’t forget to check out those heart-warming Mississippi weddings for inspiration, right? 😉
Oh well, the recent typhoon has just left the country + we are enjoying a bit of sunshine today. I will make the most of it by bringing the little man to my godchild, Blessy’s 10th birthday party later this afternoon. + just to keep my hopes up, I’ll expect more exciting things to come with whatever’s left of this month! I hope you do, too! 🙂

what you doing father’s day?

Father's Day, occasions, greetings, tips + tricks

Our Father’s Days are mostly spent at home, or in the mall {when we still have enough energy left after a long week}, or depending on the weather, we’d usually spend the afternoon in the memorial park to visit my parents’ graves. This particular Father’s Day will be no exception. We might flock to the cemetery this afternoon provided the weather will cooperate. The little man will have loads of playtime running around the grassed-lawn + just have a good time with his tito + titas.

I know most of you will find something more worthwhile with your time. Some would probably go out on a Father’s Day date with their dads or their husbands, + would try out those special offer dinner buffets in hotels + restaurants. Some would probably even book a reservation in one of those plush hotels in Makati City to give the most important men in their lives a treat on their special day. Some others would have scoured the world wide web for promos weeks before on which buffet to try or which hotels to check out.  If I were still working in the city, I’d probably book myself + the little man to one of those hotels so we can have a relaxing + lazy Sunday afternoon. + if my Papa were still around, I would’ve saved enough to book a 2-day accomodation, complete with massage + spa services + 5-course meal, for him + my Mama to enjoy. Oh well, it would be impossible to do that now but it sure is enough consolation to know that he is in a better place now, together with my Mama. Am sure he is having a blast celebrating Father’s Day up in heaven.

For those who are luckier to have their fathers around on this special occasions, I’d love to know how you plan to celebrate Father’s Day. Would you be checking out one of those Makati hotels, too? Let me know in a comment below, right?

Anyways, happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful + hardworking father’s out there! 😀
