Visiting museums is one of the things that I absolutely enjoy doing with the little man. Not only that there is so much to be learned from each nook and cranny, but there are also lots of new and interesting stuff to see for the little one’s entertainment and amazement. This is the reason why I readily said yes when we were invited to join the Museo Pambata Blogger’s Day held not too long ago. I have been meaning to bring my little trooper there but we did not get the opportunity to do so.

Of course, Jared was way too excited to explore that he was off as soon as we were done with registration.

Jared vs. the telephone

The first exhibit he checked out was Kalikasan as it was the nearest to the entrance. After a bit of exploring the nearby exhibits, guests were requested to gather at the Old Manila exhibit for a short program. The people from Museo Pambata prepared story telling activities for the kiddos, as well as riveting song and dance number. My little explorer was not too keen on the program as he cannot wait to explore the rest of the museum. He was also very smitten with an old telephone he found in the room.

After the short program, everyone was treated to a Filipino-style snack. The buffet table was teeming with well-loved Filipino specialties, including pancit bihon and pandesal. To end our lovely meal, we were all enjoyed Carmen’s Best soft served ice cream. Before we excitedly proceeded to explore the rest of the museum, I convinced the little man to make a quick stop at the Pasalubong shop. I was eyeing to get some specially-made postcards and I did not leave empty-handed as I have found a couple of lovely postcards, and dirt cheap, too, to buy and swap with my postcrosser friends. I will write about these cutesy postcards on the scarcely-updated travel blog next. Apart from postcards, there are also lots of educational toys, books, as well as other souvenir items to choose from at the souvenir shop, that it will be a wise move to check it out when you visit.

And then we were off to explore the rest of the exhibits. All in all, there are 8 differently-themed exhibits at Museo Pambata, including: events, Jared, jared's nook, travel, fun activities with children, educational activities for children

  • Kalikasan this is where kids can learn about Mother Nature and how to help preserve it through simulated rainforest and coastal area. There is also a herb garden nearby, which I absolutely love and dream of having in my own backyard, where children can learn about a wide variety of herbs and plants.
  • Old Manila ~ where the children can travel back in time to turn-of-the-century Manila and have first-hand experience of how our grandparents were during the olden times. Children can also wear old traditional clothes, ride the tranvia and a Spanish galleon, as well as check out the mini replicas of a stonehouse and a cathedral.
  • Career Options ~ where the children can envision what they want to be when they grow up and visualize their grownup selves in a career of their own choice. For this month, they are featuring authors and illustrators of children’s books, which ought to be a big hit with kids.
  • I Love My Planet Earth ~ is where the children can learn all about our planets, as well as about climate change and other problems we are facing in the world today. Here the children can also learn of ways on how to be part of the solution to these numerous problems and environmental issues.

excuse the blurry snap, photographing an excited little boy is really quite a challenge
  • My Body Works ~ is one of the little man’s absolute faves. Here the children can learn about what goes on inside and our bodies through larger-than-life depictions of our organs. Kids can easily envision complex bodily functions while playing and exploring.
  • Pamilihang Bayan ~ a miniature set-up of a local market where the little ones can learn about the art of selling, as well as about numerous vegetables, fruits, and other items typically sold in the market.
  • Global Village ~ is where the children can learn awareness of the world around us through a fascinating glimpse of children around the globe dressed in their national costumes. Toys and musical instrument from different countries are also on display here.
  • Karapatan Hall ~ is where the kids can learn all about the rights of children. Arts and other cultural activities for children as also held here.

a larger-than-life depiction of our ear

Jared had a grand time playing at My Body Works room, where he found giant renderings of our internal organs and body parts. His most favorite of all was the huge mouth that will greet you as you enter this part of the museum and the fun experience of going all the way down to the esophagus to the intestines. He had a wonderful time hiding there and asking me to find him!

The museum closes during lunchtime and resumes to entertain guests in the afternoon, we would’ve wanted to go back so we can we explore the other rooms, but we had to be somewhere else later that day. Reluctantly, the little one left the museum but not until I promised him we will go back soon.

There is a playground outside, aptly called Palipalaruan, and we ventured to look around before leaving the museum. There is also an old helicopter-turned-into-a-play-area in the playground, the Tutubing Bakal Peace helicopter, which the little one excitedly checked out.

Apart from the many wonderful things the children can see and touch at the Museo Pambata, there are also a number of  year-round programs kids and kids-at-heart can enjoy, including:

  1. Anino Sa Museo ~ a colorful light and puppet show that happens every first Saturday of the month at 10am
  2. Museo Pambata Guides Corner ~ free fun arts and craft demo that takes place every first and third Saturdays of the month at 2pm
  3. Ang Bayanihan sa Museo ~ just like what we enjoyed during our visit, is an engaging performance by the Philippine National Folk Dance Company that happens every third Saturday of the month at 10am
  4. Storytelling Hours ~ where volunteer storytellers share stories from popular children’s books and take place every Saturday at 10am

In addition, they also now offer party venues services, complete with party favors and caterers at the museum and you can check out details, as well as the rates, here.

Thank you the Museo Pambata for having us. We will see you again very soon!   :-))

  1. This is truly a great way for Filipino children to experience at the museum. Most of their discovery years are through interactive learning and experiment. Nice place for children indeed!

  5. Kids these days are already drawn to technology. You rarely see them interacting with the things around them. Glad that you came on this event. Your little trooper might not appreciate his recent trip in the museum yet, but time will come he will be thankful that you took him to a museum. It’s fun reliving the history and heritage of our country!

    1. that is one of the challenges of parents in this day and age. we really need to expose them to places such as this and tear them away from their hand-held devices. he did have a great time, he was just not too keen on the storytelling + program bit

  6. Amazing blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it
from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my
blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your theme.
    Thanks
