Starting a non-profit can be an effective way to make changes for a cause you believe in and support. Many people turn their passion into their life’s work through the formation of a foundation or other organization. People like Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick, who founded a non-profit for veterans, are making a difference every day. With determination and effort, almost anyone can do something similar. There are some important steps to starting a non-profit organization you should know in advance in order to make your journey a smooth one.

Take Time to Research

There are over a million non-profits in the United States. In order to increase the chances of yours being successful, it’s important to be sure there is a need for your particular group and that its purpose is not being duplicated elsewhere. Check out the website Guidestar.org to research the existing non-profit center in your niche. If there are others, that doesn’t mean yours isn’t needed. You may intend to go in a different direction or serve a particular segment of the population. However, taking time to see what’s out there will help to strengthen and shape your idea.

Create a Business Plan

A non-profit agency is, in effect, a business. Therefore, you should have a business plan in place to ensure you are on the right track and to convince investors of your organization’s merits. Your plan is essential when applying for funding no matter which avenue you seek. In addition, potential board members and volunteers will be more apt to sign up to help when you demonstrate your professionalism, as well as your investment.

Complete Required Paperwork

You will want to incorporate your non-profit as you would with any business in order to qualify for certain privileges and protections. In addition, obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status is imperative. The paperwork involved can seem in-depth, but it is definitely worth completing in order to make your status official. The creation of by-laws and board of directors is necessary in order to provide accountability as a genuine entity. Finally, check with your state to determine if you will need to apply for additional permits or licenses.

Homeschooling is something I have always considered for the little man, in fact, I have amassed various homeschool online resources. Even now that he is enrolled in traditional school, I have never closed my doors to the possibilities of homeschooling him in the future.

That is why I am delighted to inform you that I am giving away 2 tickets for the Philippine Homeschool Conference 2015, happening this Saturday, 17 October, between 8am-5pm at the Samsung Hall and SMX, SM Aura, Taguig City.

Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands, Manila Workshops and The Learning Basket bring you the largest homeschooling conference this year – “The Philippine Homeschool Conference 2015: Ready for the World!”

As a precursor to the “Global Home Education Conference” (GHEC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in March 2016, two well-respected homeschool advocates and speakers from the United States will be gracing the event as keynote speakers: Michael Donnelly, Director for Global Outreach of the Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and Secretary ofGHEC 2016, and Rachael Carman, mother of seven and best-selling author and publisher ofpopular homeschool science curriculum Apologia.Rachael’s husband, Davis, the President of Apologia, will be speaking as well.

Sought-after speaker and homeschooling advocate Edric Mendoza, host of On The Money and homeschooling dad of five will also be speaking. Chinkee Tan, motivational speaker and wealth coach, will be speaking as well.

Homeschoolers and those exploring this educational option will be inspired, informed and empowered in this biggest homeschooling event. Definitely bigger than the past years’ homeschool conferences, “Ready for the World!”will be held at THREE venues at SM Aura Premiere. Keynote talks will be held at the Samsung Hall, while smaller workshops and the much awaited homeschool expo will be at the SMX Convention Center.

There will be inspiring talks as well as a huge expo of the various learning providers, educational tools, toys, books, and a whole lot more, that will help homeschooling parents and aspiring homeschooling parents in their daily lives. This expo will be open to the public for a minimal amount of Php50 per head.

Sardines are among my favorite seafood. Not only are they delicious and healthy, they are also versatile and can be transformed into many delectable dishes, not to mention, very economical. Here is a brief from our friends at 555 Fried Sardines about their latest products and promos, as well as about their newly-signed up endorser, Yaya Dub.

555 Fried Sardines recently held a cooking showdown that encourages to “Make Your Barangay Proud” in chosen Barangays from Pampanga, Pangasinan and Quezon.

Participants featured their entries using 555 Fried Sardines as main ingredient in vying for the top spotsper Leg.

Filipinos are known to cook from the heart which shows why we love sharing meals with family as well as friends and 555 Fried sardines was able to highlight this culture through the Fried ng Barangay Cooking Showdown organized by Century Pacific Food Inc. and 88ville Productions.

Using 555 Fried sardines variants such as Tausi, Hot and Spicy, Bistek, and Escabeche, participants wereencouraged to come up with dishes that are not just nutritional but delicious as well.

To further engage the whole Barangay, samples of the product were tasted as they enjoyed the event through various games and raffles.

From the hundreds of entries submitted, Top 10 entries were chosen to participate in the actual demo which was furthered down to the Top 5 per Town who received the honors.

Ms. Elsa Dela Cruz, Grand Winner from Brgy. Buenlag, Calasiao Pangasinan took influence from Filipinos’s love for noodles, thus her winning entry Egg noodles with 555 Fried Sardines.

While Mr. Larry Quinto, Grand winner from Brgy. Sindalan, San Fernando City enthuses that he draws his inspiration in creating his winning entry- 555 Fried Sardines Lumpiang Sariwa from his family. Serving healthy food to his loved ones is his top most priority.
