incubus live in manila on july 28!

I posted a few weeks back that my most favorite band of all (okay my other most favorite band of all ;)) is coming over to the Philippine shores for yet another rockin’ + explosive show on July 28, 2011. If Not Now, When? World Tour 2011-2012 is in support of their brand new studio album (which is their first in 5 years!) of the same title which will be released on July 12!

This will be the 2nd time they’ll be playing the Araneta (+ the 3rd time they’re playing in Manila, + the 3rd time I’ll be watching, too! Woot!) + I bet multitudes of Incu-addicts will flock to watch their demi-gods perform, of course, myself included, although am just not sure if I can afford to shell out that much for a front row seat this time. Apart from now being officially jobless, I am only imagining how many packs of diapers + cans of milk formula I can buy with that amount + am beginning to convince myself that I think I’d settle for a much affordable ticket this time around (with a chance to meet the guys backstage, I’m hoping ;))!

Regardless of your seat location, I bet everyone will have a good time listening to the boys perform their hearts out. I can’t wait to hear the new songs from the new album played live, as much as I can’t wait to hear my old all-time favorites being played too! I hope they play The Warmth, New Skin, Oil + Water, Diamonds + Coals, Rogues, A Certain Shade of Green. Ohh, I can go on + on forever, but I know they’d only play about 20 songs + it won’t matter which one since they are all my favorites anyway! 🙂

I know all of us Incubus fans are on the edge of our seats, tottering in anticipation-madness, until July 28 finally arrives, but more the meantime, let us relax + enjoy the gloomy weather whilst listening to this second single off the If Not Now, When? album. Here’s a little background from Brandon about the story of this song (from mtv.com):

“I’ve kind of played with the idea of storytelling before, but never so precisely as I have on this album … [on] two songs in particular: ‘Promises, Promises’ and another track called ‘Isadore,’ ” he explained. ” ‘Promises, Promises,’ is a story about a girl and a guy — go figure — and the girl has built up so much armor around herself with the things that she knows how to do.

“And so, I used these metaphors in the song of, like, magic, like she’s an illusionist, so she creates these illusions around her,” he continued. “And she’s gotten so good at it that she meets somebody who potentially could be someone that could help her break through those illusions and those walls, she can’t really recognize that he could be the real thing, or they could be the real thing, so she’s asking him for one thing: ‘Don’t make me any promises.’ “

cara welfare philippines website re-launch

CARA Welfare Philippines

Although, I do not have a pet at the moment, since I haven’t fully recovered from the loss of my favorite pets, Glenn + Lassie, all those many years ago, plus I chose not to keep a pet whilst Jared is still small. He was given a pet by his godmother, Chris, as a Christmas present, but we opted to return it since I cannot look after it whilst childminding + manning the house, but I do love pets + I adore dogs so much, I’d love to own a Lab one day soon. Dogs are such sensitive creatures + it really is a joy to have one at home.

That is why I am really in full support of CARA Welfare Philippines, which previously re-launched their website. Here’s a quote from the write-up:

CARA Welfare Philippines was established in 2000 by a group of animal lovers determined to improve the lives of street animals here in the Philippines by the Spay/Neuter method to control the fast growing population. As we near our 12-year anniversary as a non-profit organization, CARA aims to help even more animals through our low cost Clinic in Malate as well as our Adoption, Education and Trap Neuter Return Programs.

As part of our continued growth, we are re-launching our website in an effort to make CARA more visible in the mainstream media and society. i wish to be a visibly smart mummy!

Intel Philippines

A few weeks back I was fortunate to be invited to this interesting seminar by Intel. This stimulating talk on how to be a visibly smart mum in this day + age is actually fun and educational at the same time.

Techie Mummy Jaye Bautista, who also happens to be a blogger, talks about the advantages of being a tech-savvy mum + how modern technologies help to get our jobs done.  Gadgets + gizmo allow mums to multi-task, either by doing several work at the same time with the aid of your reliable PC or laptop (think updating your blog whilst checking your mails or updating your social networking sites) or entertaining + educating your toddler with the aid of videos + movies in your computer (which I am such a big fan of :))

Ciey Luy, the First Academy of Computer Arts Administrator, had an interesting presentation about animation + how it can be a fun option for kids or kids-at-heart as a summer activity. Animation, nowadays, has also evolved from just being a mere hobby into a very lucrative job, with companies requiring animators and 3D designers in their ranks, + it will be a wise decision to expose kids into it earlier on.

Randy Kanapi, Marketing Manager of Intel Philippines, talked about the basics in computer (reminiscent of Comp 101 back when I was a College Freshman ;)) + about Intel’s latest offering, the 2nd generation Intel Core Processor family: Intel Core i3, i5 + i7, which is the first visibly smart micro architecture to combine visual + 3D graphic technology with performance-leading microprocessors in a single chip. In layman’s term: it has a better power management, greater efficiency + increased battery life. Believe it or not, I am still running on Pentium 4 +  I can really use that kind of power in my PC!

Here are some staggering facts I got from Randy’s presentation:

  • 1 Million PC’s are shipped everyday
  • There are 2 Billion worldwide internet users (that many, right? :))
  • 247,000,000,000 (yes one too many Zeros!) e-mails are sent each day + 8 out 10 of these are spam (that probably explains the bulk of spam this site is getting everyday, really crazy)!
  • 2.5 Billion images are uploaded to Facebook per month!
  • 12.2 Billion videos are viewed each month
  • 90% of all IP traffic will be video by the year 2013

All in all, it was an afternoon of interesting conversations, good food + good company + I even get to meet quite a number of PMC mums there too, including Mummy Cherry + her charming daughter, MG, + sis Trish + Leira whom I both met for the very first time that day!
