One of  our outstanding qualities as mothers is our devotion to providing quality nutrition to our children. This is primarily done by preparing healthy foods and giving effective supplements to sustain and nourish our growing family needs. Nutri10Plus Syrup, a multivitamins packed with Chlorella Growth Factor {CGF}, Taurine, Lysine, Zinc and Vitamins C, A, D3 B1 and more, had been assisting mothers all around the Philippines in developing children with strong bodies, active brains, and healthy appetite.

In the effort to help our co-mummies and their children in the war-stricken village in Marawi, 100 Mummy bloggers from Mommy Bloggers Philippines community had collaborated to bring boxes of Nutri10Plus Syrup,  DayCee Vitamin C Syrup and several toys, to a hundred kids in Marawi through SinagTala, a non-profit organization headed by Ms. Kaye Koo. SinagTala had been sending help to villages in Marawi since the war erupted and it had sheltered hundreds of children inside the Playroom which served as the mini-school and play area of the children.

Meet Richelle Ann: A Young Inquirer from APEC Schools

education, mum's thoughts, Philippines Today

Finally, there’s a school that offers a subject dedicated solely to teaching kids to become critical thinkers, values-driven inquirers, and effective problem solvers.Say hello to Ayala-led APEC Schools.

Aside from the important academic subjects usually taught in class, APEC Schools makes sure that its students know more than just compute, comprehend, and memorize important info and concepts relevant to mathematics, history, the sciences, and grammar.

Meet Richelle Ann. Through a scholarship, she currently enjoys the perks of an Ayala education. She attests to the effectiveness of their subjectaptly called Life Labs in honing one’s problem-solving skills. “Dito, tinuturuan kami kung paano magkaroon ng malalim na pagiisip…paano masolusyunan ang isang problema na para sayo parang napakahirap pero pag ginawa mo na pala, napakadali,” she explained.

Life Labs isa problem-based subject that provides students opportunities to examine real-life situations and issues and formulate their own solutions to address these pressing concerns. With Life Labs, students are also taught to use their research/probing skills as well as exercise their creativity to address issues such as road safety, financial, health, and media literacy among others.

Watch Ann and her schoolmate Ella as they further help appreciate Life Labs even more.

Mum’s two cents

Life Labs is something new to me, but in this day and age, I thought it is a must for every student. It is about time we re-think the old and beaten processes and procedures of local education and teach the children in class about concepts that actually matters and important life skills that are relevant today.

The Woes Of Taking Public Transport

mum's thoughts, Philippines Today, current issues, news

I used to take public transportation on a daily basis while working in the city more than 5 years ago. Commuting back then seems to be a walk in the park compared to what the commuters have to endure nowadays. I get to take public transport from time to time these days and mostly I have to endure horrendous traffic and long queues. I bet my stress level will hike up if I were to do it on a regular basis.

Unnecessary delays in train schedules, seemingly endless lines, and worse road condition, not to mention those unannounced public protest in the busiest road on a Friday, all make a commuter’s life a lot harder than it already is, and my heart goes out to the working mums who would miss the family dinner, or helping the children with their homework, or tucking the little ones to bed just because they cannot come home earlier. Now more than ever, I am thankful that I can earn my keep in the comforts of my home without having to worry about the adverse traffic condition or untimely road repairs.

Of course, these problems are not the only thing public commuters has to worry about. While agonizing about the thought of not making it to work, or class, or appointment on time, a person who takes public transportation also has to worry about his safety and security while traveling. The road is a dangerous place for travelers and accidents are waiting at every turn ~ it can be in a form of a derailed train, or one of those deadliest cars speeding by and hitting your UV van, or it can also be a pickpocket just waiting for a fellow passenger to let down his guard to attack and take whatever he can get his hands to.

With all the trouble a public commuter had to go to on a daily basis, I guess we can never really blame them for turning to social media to air their grievances about the public commuting system or lack thereof. I just hope the government has something up their sleeves to make public commuting in the country a lot less stressful and dangerous.

Have you tried public transportation recently, how was it?
