Back-to-school season gets everyone excited, including mums like myself, who absolutely enjoy going to the bookstore to shop for school supplies. Of course, as parents we only want the best for our children. After all, it is not only our responsibility as parents to encourage their creativity, but also to give them enough opportunities and the proper materials to enhance their skills.
That is why this mum is more than delighted to find out about the new coloring products recently launched by BIC® which are designed especially for kids. A well-loved brand, BIC® is not only passionate about being part of the daily lives of their million consumers, but also advocates the importance of handwriting and drawing as essential factors in a child’s development. These new coloring materials are launched to encourage children to use their imagination to develop and enhance not only their motor skills, but more so their concentration and creativity.
Today marks the little one’s first week back to school. If truth be told, I cannot believe how quickly time zoomed by and I now have a first grader! Half of me cannot wait to witness all the beautiful things that are about to happen to my first-born, while the other half wanted to freeze time and cocoon my little one so he can stay small for just a bit longer or until mum is ready to let him out into the great big world!
And as if the inner turmoil is not enough, Jared went to school and back home after class on his own for the first time today, too. As I kiss him to send him off for what seemed to be the longest day of my life, thoughts are careening in my head one after another ~ can he manage to travel on his own? Is it okay to let him go alone? But he was too young to be alone? The internal monologue enumerating the pros and cons of letting him on his own continued until it is time for mum to wait for the school boy’s arrival early in the afternoon. I quickly checked how his travel and ride went and if he was behaving while traveling. He answered that everything went well and asked if he can travel to and from school alone from now on.
So, yeah, I guess it is safe to assume that my little one is slowly maturing and that he is starting to gain more independence and would soon be needing mum less. Although I welcome the change, as well as the longer hours of peace and quiet at home leaving me with more time to do chores, work, rest, or whatever it is that I love to do at a given time, the house and I felt like an empty nest without the flurry of activities and the cacophony of Jared-related noise. Yeah, it is easy to tell that I am emotional at some point at this sudden turn of events.
School is finally back and I guess every mum will agree that one of the most challenging part of having kids who go to school is preparing different snacks for them to bring to school. Having a picky eater make the ordeal doubly harder and it does not also help to be a kitchen-challenged mum who can only prepare limited food varieties in the kitchen.
Those were the reasons why I was excited to check out the first ever Yummy Big Baon Blowout held at the Trinoma Activity Center late last month, and as I have mentioned in my foodie blog, here is another set of our delicious back-to-school finds during the event.
The Yummy Big Baon Blowout was a delicious gathering of numerous Yummy-approved concessionaires that exhibited their delicious wares. Those who came to check out the fair were treated to mouth-watering samples of pastries, sandwiches, spreads, desserts, and a whole lot more. There were also cooking demos from invited chef, as well as many food preparation and cooking tips from food experts.
This event was very timely as school was about to open in a few weeks and mums who went there definitely enjoyed learning about new recipes and yummy items they can include in their kids’ baon to school.
