cops: my very first purple post

Life and then Som

I am crazy about purple + I do have quite a few stuffs in varying shades of it (which reminds me, I have yet to photograph them ;)), that is why when I found out that sis Bambi of PMC recently unveiled the maiden edition of her very new + exciting blog meme, Crazy Over Purple Saturdays I just have to join, yes, even if it means I’d be a few days delayed. But hey, the last time I checked the linky is still open for the next couple of hours or so, I might as well grab this purplish opportunity.

For my share this week, here’s a photo of myself  with my then very little baby, Jared (yes, including his skin rashes + allergies, that my baby had when he was several months old, which later on disappeared much thanks to Physiogel + Elidel cream ;)) in my purple shirt. If my memory serves me right (which is wrong most of the time, I tell you!), this photo was taken between October-Novemeber of last year. This purple shirt is one of my favorites, not only because purple is my favorite shirt, but also because of the cute stitched-on design it has in front, really cute.  Too bad, I do not have it in photo.

Click on the lovely purple badge for more purple posts.

Have a great one 😉

mum rates

How would you rate yourself as a mother, 10 being the highest?

Wow, I never really ponder on it + neither was I excited to rate myself as a mother, see I’ve only been one for 19 months, I have way too much yet to learn along the way. Whereas I’d hate to admit I am failing miserably in this new venture in my life, + rate myself low, neither do I want to unnecessarily inflate my mummy-ego by saying “yeah I am the best there is!” Neither statement holds true.

Motherhood is a never-ending series of learning + unlearning, see, I’ve gotten past the firs few stages (i.e. being a mum of a newborn or an infant or a 1-year old), I’d say with a lot of blunders but with a mixture of many little successes, too! The unknown is yet to be conquered + the adventure is still out there! So I cannot rest on my laurels + maybe allowing a li’l congratulatory pat on the back every now + then  is much like the most ideal way to celebrate little victories.  When my son grows older I’d have to learn how to let him take flight on his own + I wonder how I’d fare by then.

But one thing I know for sure is that I’d want to be the best mum my son  could ever have. How I’d accomplish it? By educating myself on the latest on childcare + child development but more importantly by being there for Jared each time that he needs me, giving him my 101% attention + showing him in every possible way I can just how much I love him.

So, how would you rate yourself as a mum? I’d love to know, leave your rates in the comment box down there.

earth hour 2011

Last Saturday, joining a lot of other families worldwide, lights, + everything electrical in the house, were turned off in observance of Earth Hour. For one solid hour we reveled in the darkness, illumined by our flashlight + the purple electronic candle (the ones where you blow into the candle to turn it on + off), my good friend, Chris, gave me last Christmas. Jared, in his playpen for safety measures, lest he will be running in the dark + Mum will have to run after him, decided to tackle his book yet again + pretend-read while we lit him with the flashlight. We stayed in our room with my sibs, Ken + Bel, as the hour wear off.

Earth Hour is something I’d like to make as a yearly family tradition. It is not only a perfect way of doing what little thing I can to help battle climate change, but is also a great avenue to teach my son to be eco-friendly too. He’s not asking much yet, being little still, but I know for sure that by next year he will begin to ask why we turn off the lights for one hour every last Saturday of every March + I’d be more than delighted to teach him the ways of the world, so to speak, the world where everyone is doing his share to help clean + eventually save Mother Earth. Sounds Utopian right, but with every little step we take, one earth-friendly deed at a time, one person at a time, I know you’ll agree with me when I say it is quite achievable. I only wish people in our rural neighborhood will find it in their hearts to participate next year, maybe I can start a campaign to promote it? Hmm, sounds like a good idea, well, let’s see….

Meanwhile, we’ve also found Earth Hour a great time to take nice pictures, come look at our photos taken by my sis, Isabel:
