this mum needs a break!

parenting 101, motherhood, me-time

This is my entry to the Week 24 of Techie She Weekly Giveaways. This week’s lucky blogger will win $10 Paypal credits from Borris of Humble Opinion.

That being a 24/7 mum, day in day out can take its toll on anyone is something I have to experience on a regular basis. Being cooped up with a 2-year old tot, who’s got boundless + endless energy, + who would sometimes like to do anything else but sleep during nap time or during the late hours of the night, is simply too much for a tired + sleep-deprived mum like me to take! I often have the urge to scream at the top of my lungs just so I can vent. Sometimes I wish I were some place else, resting + relaxing with a good paperback in hand.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my little man to bits, tantrums + all, I just wish sometimes I can take a break when I badly need one, so I won’t end up all cranky + lose my patience at the slightest provocation. In my opinion, a mum who gets to spend time on her own when she needs it, becomes an even more effective mum when she goes back home. + Motherhood is such a gargantuan task, after all, I needed all the help I can get + all the patience I can ever muster, not to mention all the free time I can enjoy.

The lows of being a one-man army, I guess, that you cannot take even a half-day’s off even you’re aching for one. But I do not want to keep feeling this, + although it can be hard most times,  I’d stick to my New Year goal of finding time for myself whenever I can. I deserve it + my son deserves a mum who’s in a good mood all the time.

+ for starters, I’d make the most of this morning-online session whilst my sweet little Jared busies himself with his Mickey Mouse coin banks 🙂

another weekend meet up with my friends

me-time, weekends, friends

To say that I enjoyed our weekend meet ups is an understatement. I actually had a blast! + I am glad I get to spend two more Saturdays with my friends, before Ella flew back to the US. After our  get-together at Med’s place, we met up twice more in January. The first one was after the New Year at Ella’s place + the other one was on the 7th at Jhe’s place. The gang agreed to meet up at South Supermarket, where we’d take a trike to Jhe’s place.

We were running a little late, as usual, as a not-so-heavy downpour greeted us when we left home. Mum + the little man had to take shelter at the nearby sari-sari store + wait for the rain to abate. By the time we boarded a jeep, everyone else was in the meeting place.

Jhe’s home is really nice + we instantly fell in love with the place. It was not so big, in fact just big enough for a small family of three or four, but it was so clean + homey + I particularly loved the pictures + the bear-decorated Christmas tree + the lovely ref magnets! ^_^

Jared, on the other hand, fell in love with the yard + waste no time running around the perimeter of the area ^_^ He was also ecstatic to see his playmates again. He was up on his toes about almost the entire time that he was not captured in any of the photos here.

2012 goal #3: find time for myself

me-time, simple pleasures

I must admit 2011 got me spinning like a top + I hardly have enough time to take a breather, much less go out for some well-deserved me-time or relax + hang my feet for a while. My little man is really quite a handful + looking after him, while squeezing all the household chores + occasional online tasks in between, I hardly have enough time for anything else. Child-minding requires full attention + I actually wait until the little man is off to snooze land before I begin other home chores or tinker online upstairs.

It was actually tiring to say the least + what do you know, I am only human disguised as a wonder mum after all. So, to be kinder to myself this year, I vow to make extra time for me, myself + I! I know it might sound selfish, but it will actually benefit my loved ones more whenever I get to spend sometime alone. I become more productive, raring to serve + be with them some more, + yeah, I must admit, I become less cranky, too! 🙂

For this year, I plan to reserve some activities for myself that I know I will absolutely enjoy. Here’s what I’ve got in mind:

  • a trip to the salon, for some pampering. My feet are in dire need of a pedicure + my hair’s been dying to have a trim + I would love to give it one this month. While planning it, I might as well check out those sienna X hair products that might be locally available. Who knows, they could probably work wonders for my otherwise dull + lifeless hair 🙂
  • read a book. I have always been a voracious reader, but, like most of my passion in life, they had to take a back seat when the little man was born. So, this year, I plan to read one book each month + I have one ready for January, “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. I will write about it as soon as I finished reading 🙂
  • occasional meet up with friends. Depending on who’s available, I’d love to have regular meet ups with my friends. It will be a perfect breather from the mothering grind + I really am dying to hear from them 🙂
  • organizing my photos. I don’t know about you, but scrapbooking is something that I really enjoy + I have a ginormous pile of photos waiting to be organized. This year I plan to have all of the photos printed + pasted on individual albums
  • focus on postcrossing. Getting surprises from the mail is my absolute favorite + this year I plan to build up my collection of postcards, specifically map cards, from all over the globe. I need to get a new notebook to serve as a record of all my swap + mailing activities, a bigger one this time 😀

So, what are your plans for your pocket-me-time this year? 🙂
