Movie Date: Beauty + The Beast

mums's thoughts, movie date, movies, family time

The little superhero-loving dude in the house was not to keen on the idea of watching the new Beauty and the Beast motion picture. He reckons it’s a movie made especially for girls but I am glad I made him change his mind just in time. We were able to catch the screening at the local cinema this Saturday along with my siblings and he enjoyed the experience.

Beauty and the Beast in a nutshell

Of course, we are all familiar with Belle and her tale. This film was, after all, a remake of the 1991 Disney animated film which was based from an 18th Century fairy tale written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The 2017 remake boasts of an all-star cast, led by our beloved Emma Watson along with a number of familiar actors, including Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, and Kevin Kline. I am also sure moviegoers will find Josh Gad’s {Lefou} singing voice very familiar and will remind them of another lovely princess tale, Frozen, where he lent his voice to the equally colorful character, Olaf.

The movie revolves around the Belle and the Prince, who was turned into a beast by an enchantress as a punishment for his inhumane character. She also turned his servants into inanimate objects and left the Prince with an enchanted rose and a warning that he will forever be a beast if no one falls in love with him  by the time the last rose petal falls.

Young Belle, on the other hand, is the odd one out in her village of Villeneuve for being the only woman in the village who can read. She absolutely loves reading and would regularly go to the village library in search of new books to read. She finds her daily life mundane and longs for more and for adventure and love which she often reads in her books. She passe the time away by helping her dad, Maurice, with his art and tinkering work.

Things picked up when Maurice chanced upon the Beast’s castle after narrowly escaping vicious wolves. He finds the castle strange and hurried to live after seeking refuge from the biting cold outside. Before leaving, beautiful frozen roses caught his attention and remembered her promise to bring one back to his beloved Belle. And thus, unfolds the timeless tale of Beauty and the Beast.

I am sure there is no need to go into the details as everyone knows this story by heart. The movie remains loyal to the original story and only have injected a few twists here and there.

Movie Date: Fantastic Beasts + Where To Find Them

simple pleasures, movies, movie date, Harry Potter, Harry Potter world

We Potterheads are all excited about the spinoff film from our most favorite wizarding world and cannot wait to see how the film adaptation of Jo Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them would look like. Good thing we do not have to wait much longer as it opened in local cinemas recently. I was grooming the little man to be another Potterhead so, of course, I tagged him along to watch the film 2 weekends ago. Good thing my siblings {who’ve previously seen the film} were keen on seeing it again and willingly tagged along with us.

The film was based on a textbook that Harry Potter and  his friends used in school, so I did not know what to expect from its film version before I got to see the trailer. From what we’ve heard, this film will involve the book author, Newt Scamander’s adventure as he embarks on a trip to New York City and tells us of the exciting wizarding world in the United States.

When the film opened, the Potter world was abuzz with great reviews about the film with people raving about the story and the actors. The story re-acquainted us with the endearing creatures from Harry’s world, and introduced us to new characters we have not encountered before, including the thunderbird and the

Are You Watching My Bebelove: Kilig Pa More At The MMFF 2015?

I was previously invited to the Blogger Conference for the MMFF film, My BebeLove, but I was not able to attend because of work and prior commitment. It would’ve been quite an experience as my little man was a big Vic Sotto fans and had seen a few of his MMFF films in the past. Of course, it would’ve been also nice to get first dibs on the film that stars 2 of the most sought-after endorsers and most-talked about celebrities in local showbiz today, Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.

Anyways, I may not have been able to attend the blogcon, but here is a brief press release on what we can expect in the film.

What happens when the country’s comedy giants – the undisputed Philippine box-office king of comedy Vic Sotto and box-office queen Ai-Ai delas Alas, join forces with the newest record-breaking, phenomenal loveteam Aldub in one groundbreaking movie during the holiday season?

No doubt, “My Bebe Love: Kilig Pa More!,” starring Vic Sotto, Ai-Ai Delas Alas and the phenomenal loveteam Aldub of Alden Richards and Maine “Yayadub” Mendoza, is going to make a killing at the box-office and set higher heights in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) History.

Movie Date Tuesday: Big Hero 6

movies, movie date, , mum's thoughts, reviews, other reviews, family time

The little one was smitten with Baymax ever since we saw the trailer of the film the last time we were at the cinema watching Disney Planes Fire And Rescue. He cannot wait to see it and was actually wondering why it took quite a while for this film to be shown in the local cinemas.

We finally managed to catch it recently, which is just in time, too, as we have just recently got the little one’s report card and he did good and nailed his 2nd Quarter exams, too. :)

Movie Date: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Our little man is simply fascinated by superheroes like Captain America and his favorite Iron Man, that is why it is no surprise that he wanted to see the sequel to the first Spider-Man film we saw a few years ago. So for our pre-Mother’s Day celebration, we went on to have lunch at the local mall and saw the new film afterwards.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in a nutshell

The sequel basically picks up from where the first film left off and shows Peter Parker graduating from high school with his girlfriend Gwen Stacy and entering college. He was feeling so guilty about continuing to be close with Gwen even when he promised her deceased father that he’d leave his daughter out of all the mess he might get into. So on the night of their graduation, instead of celebrating over dinner at a Chinese restaurant with Gwen and her family, Peter broke up with her instead.

His alter ego Spider-Man, on the other hand, has since evolved into becoming the well-loved Manhattan superhero arriving at the right time at the right place to thwart thugs and crooks from disturbing New York City’s peace and order. He has successfully harnessed his newly-acquired super powers and went on to become a very famous masked hero in the city. And it is in one of those criminal-chasing adventures that he came across OsCorp Industries employee, Max Dillon.

Meanwhile, Peter’s childhood bestfriend Harry was back in town to visit his father, OsCorps CEO Norman Osborn, who was terminally ill. He told Harry that his illness is hereditary and that Harry is in the age when the symptoms of the strange disease is starting to manifest. He left a usb drive of sorts to Harry, explaining that it holds his lifetime’s worth of work trying to overcome his illness and keeping it at bay. Norman passed away the next day living Harry in charge of his company.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Max met a very unfortunate accident at OsCorp that led to him falling onto this tank filled with huge electric eels used to power the OsCorp building. He fortunately survived the fatal accident but it has transformed him into something else, thus Electro was born followed by the havoc he wreaked at downtown New York City.

Bothered by his recent break up with Gwen, Peter was also plagued by the memories of his parents and the puzzle about their mysterious disappearance. One day he discovered clues to finding out the truth about his parent while he was sorting through his father’s old leather bag and other effects. It lead  him to an old and abandoned secret train station that housed a secret lab once owned by his dad. There he was able to see the final message his father left before the plane he was riding with his wife to flee the bad guys chasing them, dove down from the sky and exploded.

Peter and Gwen managed to sort things out and Peter agreed to go to England together. All is well that ends well until Electro arrived to orchestrate his plan to seek revenge with Spider-Man. Although Spider-Man was able to defeat him, he was caught unawares of Harry’s plan to continue where Electro left off. It was at this time when Gwen met a fatal accident and plunged to her death.

Peter was devastated with the sudden passing of Gwen and cannot find the energy and strength to wear his mask again and help those who ae in need. A video of Gwen’s graduation speech awoken him from his reverie and inspired him to continue doing his good deed and help the people of Manhattan. Which is rather timely, as it was in that very moment when one of the old criminals he once caught and put to jail decided to appear clad in a mechanically-ironed suit and started destroying anything in its path.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprised their roles as Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, respectively, while Jamie Foxx played the role of Electro.
