This will be the 2nd time they’ll be playing the Araneta (+ the 3rd time they’re playing in Manila, + the 3rd time I’ll be watching, too! Woot!) + I bet multitudes of Incu-addicts will flock to watch their demi-gods perform, of course, myself included, although am just not sure if I can afford to shell out that much for a front row seat this time. Apart from now being officially jobless, I am only imagining how many packs of diapers + cans of milk formula I can buy with that amount + am beginning to convince myself that I think I’d settle for a much affordable ticket this time around (with a chance to meet the guys backstage, I’m hoping ;))!

Regardless of your seat location, I bet everyone will have a good time listening to the boys perform their hearts out. I can’t wait to hear the new songs from the new album played live, as much as I can’t wait to hear my old all-time favorites being played too! I hope they play The Warmth, New Skin, Oil + Water, Diamonds + Coals, Rogues, A Certain Shade of Green. Ohh, I can go on + on forever, but I know they’d only play about 20 songs + it won’t matter which one since they are all my favorites anyway! 🙂

I know all of us Incubus fans are on the edge of our seats, tottering in anticipation-madness, until July 28 finally arrives, but more the meantime, let us relax + enjoy the gloomy weather whilst listening to this second single off the If Not Now, When? album. Here’s a little background from Brandon about the story of this song (from mtv.com):

“I’ve kind of played with the idea of storytelling before, but never so precisely as I have on this album … [on] two songs in particular: ‘Promises, Promises’ and another track called ‘Isadore,’ ” he explained. ” ‘Promises, Promises,’ is a story about a girl and a guy — go figure — and the girl has built up so much armor around herself with the things that she knows how to do.

“And so, I used these metaphors in the song of, like, magic, like she’s an illusionist, so she creates these illusions around her,” he continued. “And she’s gotten so good at it that she meets somebody who potentially could be someone that could help her break through those illusions and those walls, she can’t really recognize that he could be the real thing, or they could be the real thing, so she’s asking him for one thing: ‘Don’t make me any promises.’ “

Here’s Brandon’s two-cents on the new album (also from mtv.com):

Brandon also blogged about what he has to say about the rest of the album, + you can read it here For more info, don’t forget to visit their site! I hope it tides you over until July 28! 🙂

See you at the Araneta soon, boys + girls! Rock on!

music monday: unpretty by tlc

I was able to catch a rerun of the final episode of the recently concluded American Idol + one of my favorite group from the 90’s performed + it sparked the inspiration for today’s post, not to mention it brought me back to my younger + carefree days! 😉

This is one of my all-time favorite songs + it tackles girls + women’s struggle over self-image. During those days I think a lot of girls my age can totally relate to it + made this song a battle hymn towards their self-empowerment. I love the melody, but more importantly, I love the lyrics + the message that this song imparts. To the 19-year old me, it was my perfect song!

I used to really love these girl group, + Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes (may she rest in peace) is my favorite TLC. I remember avidly waiting for their videos to be shown on MTV and read articles about them featured on song magazines that I used to buy in College. I particularly loved their album, FanMail, along with a hosts of amazing singles this album spawned, which include this one, I Miss You So Much, Dear Lie + No Scrubs. Although I was not able to purchase a copy of this album I got to listen to these songs over again, much thanks to the radio stations + MTV! Which reminds me, I will check out where I can download a copy of this online later one 😉

TLC is comprised of T-boz, Left-Eye + Chilli and is considered one of the most influential artist of their time. The single Unpretty was released in August 1999 + went on to become number one at the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

This is my share for this week’s Music Monday. I have not participated in this meme in a while + I sooo miss it! Music Monday is one of my very first favorite bloghops + I’ve been joining in a while almost every single week. I hope I can continue joining regularly again.

am his number 1 fan!

Yeah, hands down! I am his number 1 fan + that love affair began all those many years ago via this cool + poetic song, I Miss You, I was thinking “wow, a rocker with a soft side! Cool!” It was curiosity at first + one thing led to another, before I knew it, I was spending hours + hours researching about him + his band on the net (they were not that recognized here yet that time so local information + source are a bit scarce!) + I was dabbling on their music + lyrics. Before I even realized, it hit me hard on the face – I was in love for the very first time in my life!

His creativity, be it lyrically, musically or otherwise (he’s ventured into painting canvasses + walls of late) is what attracted me to him. His music has been my personal mantra. He might not be aware of it, but he was one of the key pieces to my journey towards self-empowerment! I never would’ve been brave enough to live life fully if not for his exhortations + eye-openers + I know that he’s made the same profound effect on so many people’s lives + for that we owe him much.

He continues to inspire the better of us, simply by living the life he chose. A life of creativity + a life of oneness with the All. This year, in July, for the third time now, Brandon Charles Boyd + the rest of his band, Incubus, will be coming to the Philippine shores for yet another rockin’ must-see concert. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet him face-to-face this time + probably shake his hands. It will be a dream come true + another item ticked-off my bucket list.

Love + Light,
