Mum Finds: Lovely Mason Jars

home, mum finds, products, homemaking

I fell in love with these beautiful mason jars ever since I saw them on Instagram. There are a number of online shops there who sell these lovelies, although this cheapskate mum find them a tad expensive so I just contented myself with looking and browsing at the interesting mason jar photos online. That changed, though, when I chanced upon this awesome promo by IG shop @paperstrawlove.

Can you believe that I only got to pay Php500 for the following:

  • {1} Ball 16oz regular mouth mason jar
  • {1} Ball 16oz wide mouth mason jar
  • {1} Ball 16oz Heritage Collection blue mason jar
  • {25 pcs} assorted paper straws

Did you ever wonder where these jars got their name? According to Wikipedia, the mason jar was invented by John Landis Mason, a Philadelphia tinsmith, in 1858, thus, earning its name.

The mason jars are just perfect for juices and other beverages or as storage for food leftovers, as well as keepers and ref organizer. The air-tight lids are also most ideal for storing pre-cut and sliced veggies and fruits, to keep them fresh while I keep them on standby in the fridge so I won’t have to munch on unhealthy snack items whenever the hunger pangs strike. At the moment, my mason jars have singkamas and carrots slices.

I also love that the package comes with 25 pieces of paper straws, which I will be addig to my stash so the little man won’t have to use plastic straws whenever we dine out.

Hopefully I’d chance upon another awesome deal soon. Am eyeing the Libby Country Fair jars with handle next!  😉

Mum Finds: Bevara Sealers From Ikea

household products, products, mum finds

I think products from Ikea are simply ingenious, won’t you agree? I have a couple of Ikea items, including a non-skid rug, a non-stick pan and a bunch of colorful glasses, plates and cutlery for the little man, which I purchased through one of those online groupon sites and I just love ’em! If there is a local Ikea nearby, and if I can afford it, I’d probably splurge on interesting items regularly! Oh well, fat chance, I know.

Recently we went to a local Waltermart branch in Plaridel and chanced upon these colorful Ikea Bevara sealers and I instantly like them. They are really useful in sealing left over chips, breads, cereals, milk, condiments and whatnot. I have a couple of cute sealers which I got years ago and I’d love to have a few more to add to my collection. It might come pricey at Php249 for 30 pieces, but it is a good thing my sister agreed that we chip in so we can buy a pack! I am one happy camper. 🙂

I cannot wait to use my new sealers. The little man beat me to it, though, and went on to play with them before I can put them away. He was also probably smitten by their lovely pastel colors!

UV-based cleaner cleans the unseen

It’s difficult enough to confront an enemy that is clearly visible; but if it’s unseen and equally dangerous, that poses problems.

Frequent and treacherous enemies that threaten the health and well-being of people—and largely unseen by the naked eye—are dust mites and other forms allergens or deadly microorganisms usually found in fabrics like curtains, beddings and linen, and of course in sofas, futons, pillows and baby cribs, the last an utmost concern since it is used by babies. Of course there are others like fungus, molds and mildew, salmonella and the dreaded and deadlier E. Coli.

Dust mites, in particular, are the most common. They are the types of creatures unseen or too-small-to-see without a microscope or magnifying glass. Belonging to the “arachnid” type, which includes spiders, scorpions or even ticks, they usually feed on dead skin or even leftover food from those weekend DVD marathons with the family (popcorn, chips, etc.) on the sofa or even beds and other furniture. However, it’s not the dust mites that actually wreak havoc on our health but their droppings. Most people develop severe allergies like itchy red lumps when they come in contact with dust mite droppings, or even severe difficulty in breathing or asthma attacks once dust laden with dust mite droppings is inhaled.

The good news, however, is that a new device was invented to fight off these dangerous elements through the use of “UVC,” a type of ultraviolet rays from the sun that are germicidal in nature, meaning it can kill various bacteria upon exposure even for a few seconds. And this is the type of technology used by a pioneering vacuum cleaner, the Raycop UVC Anti-Allergy cleaner.
