Although K-12 has been in the news ever since it was announced to be implemented here in the Philippines, my knowledge about it is very limited. That is why I readily said yes when I was invited to the recent YTC Blogger Meet-Up, with the theme ~ K-12 Education: How Kids Can Adopt. Now it might take a few more years before the little man experience the effects of the newly-implemented change in the Philippine education system, but it does pay to be in the know and I was hoping I can enlighten a bunch of other mums who are baffled about the issue as I am.

K-12 Education in a nutshell

While most of our neighboring countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Singapore, and Thailand have an average of 13 years of basic education, the Philippines has the shortest education duration of 10 years among Asian countries. For this reason and in line with the Department of Education {DepEd}’s pursuit to continuously improve the Philippine education system, a major education reform known as the K-12 Curriculum {under Republic Act 10533} was implemented. Under the K-12 Curriculum, Kindergarten is now mandatory for every 5-year old Filipino child, as well as the additional 2 years in the high school or secondary education.

On Saturday, May 31st, over a hundred children between the ages of 4-17 will launch their very own businesses. Some of them, seasoned Kiddo-preneurs, have been participating in the bazaar since it was established in 2011.

Kiddo-preneur, the first of it’s kind in the country, is a bazaar where all the sellers are children. The first bazaar was held at The Rockwell Club in Makati in December of 2011. Every year since then, Kiddo-preneur has held events aimed at increasing the level of financial literacy in the country and encouraging children to become entrepreneurs.

Kiddo-preneur believes that the values of entrepreneurship and hard work, should be instilled in children early on so that more and more of them grow up wanting to become entrepreneurs in the future.

The Kiddo-preneur Summer Bazaar, which will be held at The Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila, will run from 10am-6pm. Please come and support these bite sized entrepreneurs and their big ideas!

If you have free time over the weekend do not forget to check out this year’s Kiddo-preneur. Am sure even your little ones will be thrilled at the size of mini entrepreneurs manning their booths and selling their wares. If you can, you might as well get a booth for you and your children and experience the bazaar first hand.

ActiveFun is one of the little man’s happy places, so it is no surprise that when I told him about our invite for the new branch opening at SM Megamall’s Fashion Hall he was truly excited! It has been a while since we have been to Mega Mall considering its distance from our place so I thought the invite is just the perfect excuse to go there again and it is also about  the perfect time to pay this mall a visit once more and see what has changed since we’ve been here last.

the very lively program host with a bunch of kiddos including the little man 🙂

The Opening Ceremony includes a fun program where mums and kids were treated to an exciting magic show, fun games for both the kids and the kids-at-heart and a number of exciting raffles, too! Snacks were also served, along with tasty desserts found at the very charming dessert buffet set up. There were also exciting booths the children can participate in, including the Art workshop and the photo booth. The little man participated in one of the games and won himself a pack of Goody Gulp drinks! We also had our photos taken at the booth where Jared put on a number of masks, including this cool Iron Man mask!

Of course, the little man did not leave this branch without giving their play area a go. Before the program was even finished he requested if he can enter the play area to get some well-deserved playtime. This mum is more than happy to oblige!
