Did you know that thyroid disorders are some of the most common diseases worldwide? In the Philippines, 1 in every 11 adults suffer from goiter or other thyroid diseases. Unfortunately, these problems are also common in women and figures show that women are 4 to 7 times more likely to have thyroid disorders than men. They are also at risk of hypothyroidism by 10 times, with those who recently gave birth and those who are in their menopausal age being more vulnerable.

To help raise awareness about thyroid diseases, and just in time for the International Thyroid Awareness Week {ITAW} 2017, leading science and healthcare innovation company Merck, joined forces with the Department of Health {DOH}, Philippine Thyroid Association (PTA), Philippine Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism {PSEDM}, and the Iodine Global Network {IGN}, to help raise consciousness against thyroid disorders.

You + Your Thyroid

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland that sits in at the lower front of the neck and plays a key role in one’s overall health and well-being by producing thyroid hormones that help keep the body use energy, stay warm, and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs in tip-top condition.

But why are thyroid diseases usually left undetected and misdiagnosed? Blame the symptoms. Tiredness, anxiety, weight fluctuations, difficulty in sleeping ~ these are some of the telling signs of a thyroid problem. Unfortunately, more often than not, people usually attribute these to merely having poor lifestyle choices. This is why the theme of this year’s ITAW is: “It’s Not You, It’s Your Thyroid.”

Rediscover Your Feminine Power With Femilift At SvelT’i

announcement, health, women health, women issues, health and beauty, press release

Stress urinary incontinence is a medical condition that mothers may experience but choose not to discuss or even consult with a doctor, for fear of embarrassment or shame. It consists of a series of temporary, fast, but very palpable urinary leaks that are triggered by ordinary things like laughter, sneezing or coughing. The lady may be in the middle of a conversation with friends or having a laughing interaction with teachers at a PTA meeting, then suddenly, she gets an involuntary spasm in their muscle down under, followed by a familiar wetness that comes with a pee.  It is a very awkward and uncomfortable moment.

Stress urinary incontinence happens when the vaginal muscle becomes lax and is unable to prevent those sporadic involuntary leaks. Several factors that cause this laxity in mothers could be natural ageing, childbirth, or a very active sexual life. One or all of these factors can strain the orifice’s tightness and loosen it up.

Femilift is the cutting-edge treatment that can heal mothers of this medical condition, and restore their confidence as an attractive woman of poise and power. Dr. Lalaine Salazar, Medical Director of the SvelT’i Health and Beauty Centre, explains:  “Femilift applies concentrated thermal healing and micro-abalation to the vagina’s inner layers. A laser probe is used and releases a laser beam deep enough into the vagina’s submucosa level where new collagen is formed. This stimulates the regeneration of collagen which tightens the tissue. At the same time, it contracts the vagina’s elastin fibers.”

Pregnancy and childbirth are major life events and all pregnancies involve a certain degree of risk to both mother and baby. While many pregnancies are without any complications, some encounter life-threatening events for the mother or for the fetus.

When critical complications arise during pregnancy, patients may need care from specialists in a health care facility that offers specialized, intensive care to ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies alike.

The Medical City {TMC} is home to one of the country’s few maternal intensive care units that provides comprehensive high-risk perinatal services combined with holistic care by experienced, highly-skilled medical professionals.

TMC recently launched its expanded Maternal Intensive Care Unit {MICU} to accommodate more high-risk patients. Strategically located within the Delivery Suite, the MICU offers more privacy for the care of high-risk mothers and provides adequate space for the multidisciplinary team of experts so they can attend to their patients with ease. Maximizing TMC’s broad range of medical fields with the highest levels of expertise, MICU offers intensive monitoring of mother and baby in close coordination with other clinical departments, such as nursing, internal medicine, and surgery, among others.
