tuesday travels: i heart baguio!

The view in front of The Mansion

Baguio is probably one my most favorite places here in the Philippines, I have only been there once + I fell head-over-heels in love with it. It will really be ideal if I live there. I love the weather, I love the people, + most of all I love the veggies + the strawberries! 😉

I went there, together with my teammate December of 2006, we’ve stayed for 2 days if I remember it clearly. We did not get the chance to see most of the place, though, as it was raining a lot most days  (there was actually a typhoon around that time!). It was really freezing cold, but I just love the weather! It is perfect for just lazily chatting with your good friends + catching up on the latest buzz. + most of all, the weather is just perfect to whet once appetite and go out + sample what Baguio cuisine has to offer. Now, no amount of rain can stop us from going out + eating!  We had our first meal at those eateries near Session Road which sells barbeques!

A view from Mine's View

We’ve also managed to visit SM Baguio + go to the market to buy some souvenirs + stuffs. We also did not forget to swing by the series of Ukay-ukay stores in downtown. I was able to buy a knitted, turtleneck long-sleeved top + a purple jacket (or is it a windbreaker) for Jared’s dad. We also stopped by grotto + the butterfly farm, + bought some knitted stuffs from Mine’s View Park, too!

If given the chance, I’d definitely love to go back there. I want to go to the Strawberry Farm + visit the place that sells those yummy Ube jams, too! Or maybe we can venture farther + pay a visit to Sagada as well (oh well, that probably has to be in a separate post altogether!)

GMA Kapuso Foundation Launches Ukay-Ukay For A Cause

Henry Perez - Executive Director, GMA Kapuso Foundation

I was fortunate to be among the bloggers invited to attend the GMA Kapuso Foundation‘s launch of their new fund-raising project, Ogie and Regine Celebrity Ukay-Ukay.This is an e-bay-based online auction that will commence on 15 July (this coming Friday) + shall run for the next 10 days. Another round will begin on July 25 too.  What’s special about this online auction is that it will feature pre-loved premium items by celebrities such as Ogie Alcasid + wife, Regine, Kris Aquino, Sharon Cuneta, Dingdong Dantes + Chris Tiu, who dropped by during the conference + gave a quick background about his signatured jersey that will also be auctioned this coming Friday.

Other items that are included in the 15 July auction are Regine Velasquez’s Prada Bag, John Lapuz’ Andy Warhol Seiko Watch, Sharon Cuneta’s Valentino Rosette Sandals,  + Ogie Alcasid’s Branded Karma Music Workstation keyboard:

I would love to bid on that Karma Keyboard, my little man would enjoy playing with it + who knows some of Ogie Alcasid’s songwriting prowess rubs into him when he uses it!

And here are some of the items to be auctioned on July 25, a Kris Aquino cocktail dress, Mel Tiangco’s Paul Cabral Gown + Regine Velasquez’s Nicole Miller Aubergine gown:

GMA Kapuso Foundation, through their numerous projects, including Bisig-Bayan (medical assistance program), Kalusugan Karavan (medical mission), Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (education program), continues to reach out to Filipinos in need of their assistance. Through the Ogie + Regine Celebrity Ukay-ukay they aim to raise funds for the benefit of their Kapuso School Developement (KSD) Project, a school-based program that aims to provide students in poor + remote areas in the country the following:

  • decent + functional classrooms conducive to learning
  • sanitation + water distribution facilities
  • raise environmental awareness through tree-planting activities around the school premises

Mel Tiangco, Executive Vice President/COO

They were able to build 89 classrooms from their Ondoy calamity fund +  just last week they inaugurated 5 more classrooms in Zambales, Henry Perez proudly shared.  According to Ms.  Mel Tiangco they are aiming to build as many classrooms as they could or at least 50 classrooms a year which will cost them roughly about Php 35 Million, with a singe classroom amounting to Php 650,000 each. That is why they will be needing all the support they can get to make this goal into reality. She also invited the blogging community to be an instrument of love + be a venue for the readers to reach out to our fellowmen who are in need.

Apart from the e-bay auction, GMA Kapuso Foundation also had an ukay-ukay stall at the Heatwave Bazaar last summer + shall be having another one come Christmastime at the Noel Bazaar, which will be held at the PICC Forum this time around.

Education is every child’s right, the only treasure we can leave our children behind when we passed on, as what our parents would normally tell us, + what could be better way to join this worthy cause but by participating in this exciting event! You get to own a pre-loved item by your favorite celebrities at a steal + help build a school for the needy children in our country. What more can you ask for, right?

So save the date + participate in this online ukay-ukay on e-bay.  For more information, you may reach GMA Kapuso Foundation through any of the following:
