Ever since I became a mum, I have always been fascinated about homeschooling + dreamed of homeschooling my little man one day. I do not know much about educating little children, all I know is that I am a mum who would love to teach her little one way before he goes to the big school, to teach him the essentials + the basics at home before he learns it from other people. + hopefully, I can home school him through out his elementary school days!

I have witnessed a number of parent-homeschooler in the EXPO Kid last month + I have really been moved by their passion + yearn to do the same for my kiddo. Jared is almost 3, + I believe that now is probably the right time we start our little home school. + I am doing my homework + checked out loads of homeschooling resources online just to get a bird’s eye view of how it truly works and, simply put, to know where to start + know which things to teach my little tot!

I have stumbled upon these very interesting sites which I shall be sharing with you in the future. They have loads of posts, instructions, tips + free printables to aid our homeschooling journey. One even has a blow-by-blow account of how their homeschooling go about in a day just to give her readers a clear picture of how interesting + amusing it is to educate your children by yourself + I am loving every bit of this! I am really having information-overload + is just overwhelmed at the amount of things to do + learn. But, I do hope I will be able to get over the initial shock + jump-start our class very soon. Thank goodness for the world wide web, it has been a goldmine for relevant information on blogging, motherhood, + a whole lot more. Now I am learning all these new things on homeschooling too, + I do not even need to spend money on homeschooling books so I can spend it on other important things like homeschooling supplies! 😉

As a minor preparation, I bought a few arts ‘n crafts supplies the last time we visited the bookstore a few weeks back. I got the little man a new set of crayons, a bunch of cute soccer ball erasers {which he now plays + counts + puts on his toy cars as passengers sometimes, too!}, a pair of blue safety scissors for the little hands to get busy + a drawing book where he can create numerous doodles when he feels like it!

mum cooks with a little help from online recipes

I must admit I am not a good cook, I did not inherit even a third of my Mama’s cooking prowess, + having a picky eater toddler does not make things any easier for me. I get those kitchen elbow grease on a daily basis preparing  the dishes I can create {which are only just a handful, really!}, but, sometimes, even I get tired of my own cooking + my taste buds clamor for exciting new tastes. I bet if my little picky eater of a toddler can air his concern, he would definitely say the same thing.

See, I only alternate too few dishes including ground beef with potatoes, ampalaya with egg, nilaga, sinigang, the occasional monggo  + the fried pork chop, fish or hotdogs {my son’s favorite} staple. I know my cooking skills do not look so promising + I have a very dismal menu, that is why I am hoping to hone these skills so I can start dishing out those nutritious + delicious meals that my little man will enjoy. If only I could enroll in a cooking class now, I would!

It was a good thing, though, that there are loads of food/recipe blogs online which I can browse through for cooking inspiration + much-needed instructions. One of which is Filipino Food Recipes. A few months back, a certain spark of inspiration to search for a recipe for paksiw na bangus led me to this blog. This dish is one of my all-time favorites + I really miss the way my Mama cooks it! + what do you know, mine tasted almost exactly like hers. Even my sister agreed!

I never thought cooking paksiw can be this easy. Check out the recipe so you will know exactly what I mean. I also intend to check the site for more recipes of dishes I can cook for my little man the next time I set foot on our diminutive kitchen.

in search of free printables

I have been planning to get my own printer since I found out about those free printables online. Through the worldwideweb, every mum has access to gazillions of free printables for just about any occasion:  teaching + instruction materials, coloring or activity pages for their little ones, thank you cards + greeting cards, casual wedding invitations, even. I have sampled some during my little man’s first birthday when we’ve printed out Pocoyo coloring pages for his little guests to color while waiting for the party to start. Although we never get to actually use the printed coloring pages as the place where our party was held provided their own activity pages for our guests, I still think it is a brilliant idea + will do it again the next  time we held a party or a playdate, perhaps, once the little man is sociable enough.

In the meantime, I shall be searching for free instructional + educational printables on numbers + the alphabets, they will come handy once the little man started showing interest in doodling those letters and numbers. Of course, it will save me much to DIY those materials instead of getting stored-bought ones.

Don’t you just love the idea of free printables? Now you can DIY your birthday + wedding invitations, if in case you are in a budget, + still came up with something as nice + special as the ones found in stores + shops.
