On 09 January, the Finals and awarding for the 1st Frabelle Foodie Chef Competition was held at El Pueblo’s Cafe 1771’s Winebar. Mumwrites was lucky enough to be invited, and the little man tagged along, of course! 🙂 The momentous occasion was hosted by gorgeous Issa Litton.

  • Stuffed Chicken by Neneth Tiongkiao Madrona
  • Hickory Smoked Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Chicken by Romeo Julian Garcia

Frabelle’s big wig, Mr. Franny, judged the competition, along with brand endorser, Senator Chiz Escudero. Bloggers, trad media and members of the audience were also given the chance to vote for their favorite dish. Mum Neneth Tiongkiao Madrona‘s Stuffed Chicken was the crowd favorite and it is no wonder she bagged the very first Frabelle Foodie Chef title and receives P20,000 cash prize, as well as a one-day culinary class at the Center for Culinary Arts in Manila. Maridel Pacleb’s unusual Frebelle Delish Muffin also won a special citation for being such a unique recipe.

The food tasting of the 5 finalists’ recipes is a feast in itself. I was almost full by the time I finished my platter. That is why when the buffet of Frabelle goodies was opened, I just get small servings of each dish, just so I can sample each of them. After the awarding ceremonies, a short and simple presscon-cum-interview ensued.

Our Disney on Ice Experience

One of the highlights of our 2012 will have to be the Disney on Ice: Princesses and Heroes show that we watched on 26 December at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Apart from being such a lovely experience, it was also momentous as it was the first time that the little man get to watch a show like this and his first time inside the Araneta, too. I’ve been there numerous times in the past as I’ve watched a couple of my favorite bands concerts.

For a first timer, I’d say my little man aced it! He was all eyes on the characters dancing on ice and would do as the rest of the audience do when it is time to give a round of applause for one enthralling performance. And what he actually enjoyed the best will have to be the time Mickey and Minnie went out to the stage to introduce the princesses and their princes. The endearing mouse is, after all, one of Jared’s all-time favorite characters and if only for that, I would say the money spent on buying tickets for this show is money well-spent.

I am fully aware that Disney on Ice runs every Christmas at the Big Dome and it was actually rather untimely that we get to watch the show now that it is  featuring the princesses {I believe that little girls would’ve enjoyed this one better}. But, nevertheless, the little man still had a wonderful time watching the characters that mum grew up with and used to watch as a little girl, even when his own favorite characters were nowhere to be found. He was particularly enamored with the seven dwarfs and would blurt into “hi, ho, hi, ho, it’s off to work we go..” even now.

It was such a great show and we simply love the choreography, the colorful costumes {imagine Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Genie from Aladdin coming to life}. They even had a little fireworks display towards the end of the show and I find the grand finale quite magical, with that golden chariot to boot! Oh well, I bet you can tell that I enjoyed it much more than my little one!

I will make sure that we watch this show again next Christmas and I will cross my fingers that Lightning McQueen, Buzz Lightyear and Agent Oso will be present this time around! 🙂

We’ve just been Jamba-fied!

event, food, healthy eating

One lazy Saturday afternoon I got an invite from Geiser Maclang to get first dibs on Jamba Juice, which was slated to open its very first branch north of Metro Manila the next day. We were going to Quezon City later that day, anyway, so I gladly RSVP’d to the invite 🙂

Jamba Juice in a nutshell

Jamba Juice Company is a leading restaurant retailer of better-for-you, specialty beverage and food offerings, including but not limited to great tasking whole fruit smoothies, freshly-squeezed juices and juice blends, breakfast wraps and mini-wraps, hot oatmeal, sandwiches and California Flatbreads founded in 1990. There were 769 Jamba Juice store locations globally as of April 2012.

The Active Camp

To celebrate the opening of their SM North EDSA ~ The Block branch, Jamba Juice came up with The Active Camp and treated Jamba Juice drinkers to one thrilling afternoon of fun, exciting, healthy activities. A play area was installed in one corner complete with slides, a swing and trampoline where the rowdy toddlers can jump to their hearts content. My little man particularly had a wonderful time with the slide and gave it a go about several dozen times! ^_^

Other activities such as rappelling/wall climbing, Zumba and trampoline jumping catered to the teens and the grown-ups. A photo booth was also set-up so that participants can have their photos taken.

“Aside from further bolstering the thrust of Jamba Juice as a brand that complements dynamic living, we wanted our customers to experience the things that Jamba Juice passionately upgholds,” says Jamba Juice Philippines’ Managing Director, Sharon Fuentebella. “You can Zumba the day away, wall climb, challenge someone to survive the trampoline, or ride the Jamba Juice Bike Blender for more than five minutes to see how ideal Jamba Juice is for an active lifestyle.”

The Jamba Juice Bike Blender

The Jamba Juice Bike Blender is a one-of-a-kind device from California that highlights Jamba Juice Philippines’ Give Me Five campaign. It has been a prominent fixture in previous store openings {in Alabang and SM Mall of Asia}. The campaign, on the other hand, is a partnership with the Bureau of Plant Industry – Guimars National Mango Research and Development Center {BPI-GNMRDC} and encourages guests to ride the stationary bike for five minutes in exchange for one mango seedling to be planted in the Guimaras Mango Park. This supports the locally-grown Guimaras Mangoes, which are arguably the best in the world.

I gave the bike a go and I say, it is good for someone who’s only form of physical activity is to do the household chores and run after my little one. I would’ve loved to do 15 minutes on the bike, but you have no idea how 5 minutes crawl when you are in a stationary bike. My legs were both tired even before I finished pedaling my very first 5-minute set.

And we’ve just been Jamba-fied!

The highlight of the event is tasting the goodness that Jamba Juice has to offer.  We’ve sampled the Cheddar Tomato Twist and Parmesan Pretzel and downed it with a tumbler of the very delightful Strawberry Smoothies. What a perfect way to wind down after a tiring day.

Thanks Blanch of GMCI for the invite. 🙂
