Mum Finds: Rise of The Guardian Books + More

books, book haul, Booksale, simple pleasures, jared's nook, children's books

We had a chance to go to the nearest Book Sale branch just a few weeks ago and look what I got for the little man! Rise of the Guardians is one of his faves that is why he was so thrilled to see these books. And since books are my weakness, too, I simply cannot say no. These sure are great finds and very affordable, too. One of the book even have cards which we are planning to turn into bookmarks, as well as lovely stickers of the lovely characters from the film.

Before we left, we also saw these flashcards and since the Jared is now fascinated with numbers and counting, I just had to get him one, too. The flashcards sell for less than Php40 but unfortunately when I opened it at home it wasn’t the 1-100 flashcards I expected it to be. Nevertheless, it is still a good buy.

What do you think of my Booksale haul? What sort of books did you get for your little ones lately? 🙂

Teaching The Little Man At Home

look who joined to help the little man with his numbers! ^_^

I have mentioned on occasions that if I could I would really love to homeschool the little man. Even when that plan did not push through as we find alternative ways for our son to learn, I never pass on the chance to teach him at home and rummage online for learning printables that I am sure my little one will enjoy.

I chanced upon this Despicable Me printables while visiting my favorite homeschool blog and I immediately downloaded and have it printed, knowing Jared will love it to bits. The printable pack includes this Counting From 1-10 page, where the little man has to trace the letters from 1-20, as well as this Gluing Fun activity, where Jared is asked to cut out these lovable Despicable Me characters and glue them into their corresponding boxes.

The little man enjoyed the activity a lot. He may not have developed his cutting skills to the fullest but am sure with constant practice, and loads of worksheets like this, he will learn how to cut properly in time. I have also stumbled upon this How To Train Your Dragon printable and I cannot wait for the little man to work on it.

By the way, I have also recently discovered K5 Learning, which has an online reading and math program for kindergarten to grade 5 students. I’ve been given a 6-week free trial test and write a review of their program and I cannot wait to try it out with the little man. If you are a blogger, you may want to check out their open invitation to write an online learning review of their program.

It Is Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas At Home

mum's thoughts, Christmas, Jared, Jared's nook, home

It sure is beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at home now that I finally managed to set up our Christmas tree. I originally planned to set it up earlier last month but with the light of the recent disaster in Visayas, I find it difficult to get into all the Christmas vibe knowing that someplace else people are suffering from a tragedy and thought is was rather inappropriate.

But, there is no way we can stop Christmas, right? And there is no way Filipinos would stop celebrating it no matter what, so I was glad I finally mustered enough energy to get the tree out of its box along with all the trimmings I managed to collect the past years.

I am also very delighted that my little helper was very much game to help me set up our tree. He was so enthusiastic, in fact, that we were able to get everything done in a few minutes. He cannot wait to have the lights up so we can turn it on. He also enthusiastically put the little star at the top of our tree. 🙂

Next up are the little gifts to put under our tree. I have yet to shop for those, though, so hopefully I find the time in the next few days.

I hope Christmas’ coming along beautifully in your homes and that you have found the time to set up the tree, too! 🙂
